locating wall Ties for an old stone building

Ossy, thanks for the reply. Yes, I'd like to add pattress plates to the front and back of the house and hide the ties in the ceiling space. The ties would be located either side of three gables ( the two originals and to an extension ). Some of the old stone work has opened-up in the gables, but...

I am in the process of renovating an old stone building in Europe and would like to prevent further movement in the walls by inserting a couple of wall ties ( aprox 7m in length - front of the house to the back ). Fibre Board for bedding verge tiles - help please.

Alastairreid, hi, thanks for the follow-up. I suspect I'll end up going for a wet verge, ie: bedding the tiles on, and if I get 30 years without any cracking I'll be more than happy! Cheers again.

My local high street DIY chains don’t seem to stock these! Can anyone suggest a supplier in the Romford ( Essex )...

How to remove cement stains from granite stones?

I am in the process of renovating an old granite stone building. Unfortunately a large section of the original lime pointing was repaired by the previous owner using cement. I plan to replace this with a lime mortar but a lot of the stones have been badly stained by cement. I’ve tried scrubbing...

    How to form a dormer

Hi, I am new to this forum and would appreciate any advice you can offer. I am hoping to construct a dormer, most likely with a hip roof, and wondered if there are any 'how to guides' on setting-out / constructing dormers. Does anyone know if there are any useful websites, videos or books out...
