When choosing tile trim does it need to match the thickness of the tile, or does it need to be a few mm thicker to take into account the depth of the adhesive behind the tile? In this case the tiles I have chosen are around 8mm thick.

The diagram below shows my current boiler set up. Could someone tell me what is the purpose of the by-pass balancing valve as shown on the diagram. Should this gate valve be left open or closed, or somewhere in between? Thanks.
