Thanks everyone, very helpful. In B&Q first thing and got one.

The stopcock won't close fully so thought I'd change it. The external one is burried in a few inches of clay. The house is around 15-20 years old so no idea what size it is. But thanks for all the post - realy helpful B&Q here i come!

I need to turn my water off at the street so I can repalce a leaky stopckock, but the blooming thing is about 3-4 feet down a hole. Any idea where I can get a long key from. Screwfix only have an 8 inch one.
