    drill

you do have the drill in the forward mode and not reverse dont you, as stated to drill into brick with a masonary bit should take seconds, unless of course you're drill is in reverse. just a thought, i've done it!

    cleaning inside of dg window

thanks for your advice guys, i just thought that you could take the pane out somehow, because the smears look as though someone has cleaned it (inside) but not dried it properly. it is definately not moisture, it is definately white streaks that you would get if you cleaned something with a wet...

    downlighters

ban-all-sheds, thanks for your input. the size of the connector blocks are fine, as i said before, there is no problem fitting the wire, and they are not too big so the wire looks lost in them and not too small so i have to force them in, i also twist the ends well to prevent any strays being...

    downlighters

thanks for your input ban-all-sheds, not sure what you mean by 'designed' to take .75mm wire. the light connector blocks are of sufficient size, i dont have to force wires in neither is there bags of room, the wire fits neatly. unless of course you meant take it as in power, the light switch i...

    downlighters

thank you guys, however this earthing is confusing me a little, the lights according to instructions do not need earth, and there is no place for earth cable. the .75mm i have is just 2 core. the power going to the dimmer switch is coming from the main light in centre of room, (which is earthed)...

What should I use to fill repair brick and wood holes patio

i would recommend expanding foam, available from all diy stores costs a couple of quid. as its name suggests it expands to fill holes, so dont over fill but get a good amount in. when dry use a sharp knife to trim, it can also be sanded and painted over.

    Tiling or kitchen units first?

hi frediaz, you are quite right about the way in which you want to do the tiling however there are a few things to remember about the floor tiles, if they are quite thick dont forgrt to take this into consideration when deciding the height of the worktops, generally i think the standard height...

    downlighters

is it safe to use .75mm cable to power downlighters, i know 1mm is the recommended size, but i have plenty of .75 and local stores do not seem to stock 1mm. the downlighters permanent live supply is coming from the main central light into a dimmer switch, then obviously to the first light. the...

Is this socket suitable for a spur

the simple rule about spurs in sockets is this. if you look at the wires and there are only one set of wires then it is already a spur being fed from another socket and you can not or should not run another from it. if there are two sets of wires then it is not a spur and you can run another...

    Painting question

no reason why not, i've done it in the past, however it is a very porous material. a good trick is to mix pva glue with equal parts water and paint that over the material and wait to dry fully, this will prevent the paint from being absorbed, and you may not even need a primer, or maybe only one...
