    chimney breast dilema ???

Could save you ££££s if you can plug into your neighbour's sockets. Seriously how about boxing out the front of the breast to give you the depth. If it is only 4" you need frame it out with 4x2 at front (and on sides if it needs balancing visually), plasterboard, done! One other thing...

Sand and Cement - Mixing very clay like?

That mix sounds like it is down to sand not being washed, ie still has a lot of clay in it from pit, cheap normally used for blinding over hardcore not very good for building.

    Bonded Gravel

i had this installed in my second house about 9-10 years ago. I think from Ideal home exhibition. i don't want to put you off, it looks good new but If you plan to put a car on it be carefull not to turn wheels too often when car is still as it rips up gravel and you will be left with bald...

    putting in another rad

Solid wall (concrete) its a small 450mm rad that's coming out of the hall and going into the kitchen. I connected up the valves onto the rad fitted it to wall first, and with a small 15mm copper bend to give me a mark where to drill. It all lines up fine, just need to join it up.

    Power for fishtank

I was hoping to bury cable behind some galvinised channel, earth connected in FCU socket terminal and looped to the earth terminal in the box. Fuse board has MCB's only. As for the tank its' really only something different/decorative. It holds about 16litres. It hangs on a wall bracket...

    Power for fishtank

Thats exactly how you describe it, a wiring centre. The tank has a round black glass frame (square tank behind it) and It looks like this connector/wiring centre screws to the wall hidden behind the top of the frame. I want to know if I can run the power to this wiring centre from a single...

    Power for fishtank

Your right, the pump, filter thermostat and light all are fitted with plugs, the strip connector switch unit (to me) looks like they can be wired to it and be fed by mains. I will put on a few pictures when I get home.

    Power for fishtank

Looking for some advice, I have a fish tank/feature that hangs on the wall. The fitting instructions are pretty vague. It comes with a connector strip unit (that has on off switch and terminals for the pump, striplight, thermostat and mains power input. Could I replace an unused single socket on...

Extending kitchen ring main + new oven.

The model we are looking at (whirlpool AKZ 161) is showing a total output of 4300 watts, and a rating of 30A in the technical information. Yes I will be running new cable and a new cooker switch. The cooker will be 9 metres from the consumer unit. Will 6mm cable be OK or do I need to go to 10mm...

    Valliant combi boiler (wiring)

thanks for the reply spark123, yes it is on a fused switch (between boiler and consumer unit). so it will be fine to swap it over into the 16A mcb then.

    Valliant combi boiler (wiring)

Been in new house for a few years now and I am putting in a new kitchen and after working out where all the sockets and lights are connected to in the fuse board, I have found that the combi boiler is wired into the ring main, (this was what the third live cable was in the mcb). The old boiler...

Extending kitchen ring main + new oven.

I am putting in a new kitchen, at the moment there are two double sockets, one single socket and a single oven, on its own 30A ring. The extractor is fed from a drop from the upstairs ring. What I want to do is extend the kitchen ring and put in a fused socket for the extractor, (junction box...
