    Thanks kevplumb, that gave me the inspiration to use pliers across both sides of the collar to apply even pressure rather than my weak bony fingers. Now to the hard bit... :|

    A great tip, but annoyingly I need the top input which is masked by the transparent cover, so barely any room to move or apply pressure. Other suggestions? Thanks

    Water down chimney despite cowl fitted

    We've recently had a new open chamber fireplace fitted, however we've noticed some rainwater coming down onto our cast iron basket (now rust-city!). After some reading, we've had a cowl fitted to the chimney (the correct one identified after a smoke test) but we're still getting some water...
