Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Have left the system with cal-chem inhibitor / cleaner in and will see if the situation improves beyond the flow pipe getting hot. Will address after the holidays to save the turmoil of lifting floorboards etc.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Hi all, I am draining out the x800 today and have an observation. I am using the tf1 to drain the system and if I close the flow valve or the return valve on the offending radiator then the system stops draining. Does that indicate anything?

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Will go to local plumbing shop and pick up 1/2 inch bsp to 15mm Bush adapter and hopefully when I undo the compression I can clear the poor flow with the bucket tester.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Just about viable at current rate which is below market rate. All electrics signed off and LL licence (sorry I mean tax) in place. Prefer to keep tenant rather than bring inline with market rate as better the devil you know.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Thanks @Mike13 . Fitted the filter today and got some floor up on the 1st floor. It has been very poorly piped with 15mm on main runs rather than 22. The run towards the front of the property serves 2 rads downstairs one 2m long one 2.2m and two up stairs including the bad one with compression T...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

I provide decent quality accommodation at a good price. Unfortunately margins took a hit since covid and stealth taxes by government / local authority.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Hi plan is to try and get some more flow with the x800 and then flush that out and then leave x400 in the system with the filter dragging the suspended particles out. It is a property I rent out so need a quick fix if I can without too much disturbance. If it was in my own home would be much...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK understood. Will get the filter on and get some x800 back in and run it for a while before cutting into the pipe at a point where I have access.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

@Madrab @Mike13 When I go to pressure the system with the bucket tester assume I should open the flow pipe somewhere else so the pressure has somewhere to go? Was thinking of draining down to fit the tf1 omega and whilst drained undo the union on the one way valve that stops gravity primary...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

@Madrab just tried my cheapo bucket tester and it seems to work OK. When I connect it to the system do I need to isolate the system/other radiators? Obviously I can shut lockshields / thermostatic rad valves can also shut off the pump valves if required? Do I need to do anything in the loft...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK will get the filter on first thanks. My tenant has switched all the other rads back on and even with those on the bad one is luke warm so is getting some flow even though clearly the pipe is still heavily blocked. Would fernox F8 be better option than the x800 or are they all much of...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK thanks. Is it reasonably safe to leave the x800 running through the boiler and the offending radiator for 12hrs in your opinion or could I be pushing my luck? Boiler is Potterton kingfisher2 floor stander which is obviously cast iron HEx. Could maybe only dose the system with half a bottle of...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

@Madrab left some x800 on the rest of the system and drained that out today. Filled up with water only and shut all other radiators off and got some flow now so radiator now gets warm. My bucket tester hasn't arrived so plan now is more x800 introduced into bathroom rad and let that circulate...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

I also wonder if someone has been stupid and put a ballofix under the floor seeing that the drain cleaning tape would not go very far

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK I even tried to stick a steel drain cleaning tape down the open radiator pipe and only made it 5cm or so that was a fail. Would have expected the tape to have gone around any immediate bends under the floor as it is very flexible and thin. So maybe it is very local to the radiator.

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

Can get a cheap bucket tester from ebay for 17.99 or do you think be better to start cutting pipes?

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK don't have one of those:-( I am using a twin barrel footpump. I am guessing I have a blockage that is reducing the diameter of the 15mm pipe but not totally. Then when I pump it up the pressure gets greater beyond the blockage then when I release the pressure the water gushes out due to...

Issue with one radiator in open vent heating system no flow

OK so have an update. Rigged up a washing machine hose on the return of the offending return valve union this was not flowing other than minor dribble. Gave it a couple of pumps and then got good flow. Put everything back together and still not working. So moved onto the flow pipe which after...
