    Advice on laminate underlay...

I am also looking at laminate underlay so excuse me for jumping in on this thread. Was this the stuff you mentioned at B&Q? http://www.diy.com/departments/selit-5mm-expanded-polystyrene-laminate-floor-underlay-5m/252020_BQ.prd This claims that it has a built in DPM I want to know is whether you...

    Fitting a Belfast

You can get Belfast-style sinks that are not undermounted but have a "lip" on the top that fits over the worktop, like the Domsjo one from Ikea. I have one of those mounted in solid oak worktop and it's fine. I think it would be OK with a laminated worktop too, as the cut surface would be well...

Wires too thick to fit in replacement light fitting

I don't think that'll work, the terminals on the light seem stupidly small. I spent far too long yesterday trying to get them to fit - it's always much more fiddly working above your head, especially when it's getting dark and your wife is yelling up the stairs asking when she can turn the...

Wires too thick to fit in replacement light fitting

Are individual connector blocks also acceptable? BTW the lighting circuit is not earthed (1964 house). I was assured that the light fitting is double insulated and OK to use unearthed. (And yes I know the lighting circuit really should be overhauled; it is on the list, eventually...)

Wires too thick to fit in replacement light fitting

I am replacing an old ceiling rose/pendant light with a new fitting with angled spotlights. It's on a landing and on a two-way switch. The terminals of the old ceiling rose were large enough to take three wires twisted together; then a single wire from each terminal led to the lamp itself...

Trying to find tubular privacy bolt with 44mm backset

In fact I've just managed to find something! It's all in the name you search for... it seems I should have been looking for "deadbolts", e.g. http://www.fixy.co.uk/products/item66.cfm Looks like you can only get the flat ones not the tubular ones but it will do the job.

Trying to find tubular privacy bolt with 44mm backset

Thanks geraint. You wouldn't think it would be such a difficult thing to find!

Trying to find tubular privacy bolt with 44mm backset

Does anyone know where I can find a tubular (mortice style) bolt latch with a 44mm backset, to take a 5mm spindle? I have been searching all over without success. I've found latches for door handles in this size, but they'd be no good for a bolt would they, as they are sprung to hold the...

    Electric radiator/towel rail in bathroom

Thanks for that reply Chri5. I wasn't sure if the shower head being demountable rather than fixed would have any bearing on it, especially as it'll be a hinged shower screen rather than a fixed enclosure. Yes I intend to have underfloor heating - although to be honest the room never seems to...

    Electric radiator/towel rail in bathroom

I'm planning to renovate our small bathroom and have run into a potential problem. The room is only 165cm x 209cm, and as the house only has electric heating rather than central heating I want to have an electric towel rail (as we have currently). This is a rough plan of the intended layout...

Washing machine waste into cast iron soil stack?

I want to move my washing machine out of the kitchen and into the garage where the tumble dryer is already located. The garage is directly below the bathroom and the cast iron soil pipe comes down the garage wall. My question - can the waste from the washing machine be run directly into the soil...

    Rogue Traders

What I suspect happened was that the electrician discovered the warm kettle, so to make it more amusing for the TV show, they later filmed a little insert of the presenter with his cup of coffee to "explain it". I agree the cut wire looked suspicious though. It's one of those annoying...

    Choosing a shower

Thanks for the quick reply - when you say over a separate pump, would the pump need to be out in the airing cupboard by the hot tank? In which case it may well be quiet from the bathroom but will the pump be noisy in the bedroom where the airing cupboard is? This is something of an issue for...

    Choosing a shower

Hello, new member here although I have been browsing the forums for some time. My bathroom is in desperate need of an overhaul - it is basically the original 1960s suite, in a tiny room, with the only addition being a Triton electric shower which we don't use as it produces about as much...
