Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Apparently the boiler was discontinued the year after we had it installed. British Gas buy up all the spare parts so that they are not available to the general public unless they are second hand on ebay or such. The particular boiler is not able to withstand the pressure of a closed system, so...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

AS I mentioned, I thought I had just got the system to work better, having turned the pump down the rads were holding their water upstairs, not brilliantly but a lot better. But after the water leak, when we had all the taps turned on, the air came back into the upstairs radiators again. I...

Gavinda it took 2 people all day to power flush, replace all TRVS fit new pump. 9.30am to 6pm I think. I have since asked him to confirm that the power flush included not just the rads but the boiler and 'arterial' pipe work and he confirmed it did. TRVS were £35 plus VAT x 13 off. No one...

Thought this ought to be a separate post, Just when you thought you might be onto something.............. Woke up this morning to power cut. Re-set the trip switch, turned on the boiler and you've guessed it, off went the power again. So now back to square one with no heat and no water...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Hi, thanks for all your input overnight to answer what I know here goes: To WDIK I turned the pump down on advice from the diynot site and it seemed to improve the circulation for a while ie the rads upstairs started to get warm and hold their water. Then we had a disaster in the spare room...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

the 1700 was for the powerflush, thermostatic valves on 13 rads, new ball valve, a new pump, 2 automatic bleed valves and the dreaded VAT. When he left he said that all rads were working and that he could either stay for another few hours to get them all bled or call him back in 3 - 4 days if...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Just read the last two posts this morning, thank you, will check the pump again, and try the magnet although part of the house is concrete floor and part demi cellar so may not get to all of it, eg through walls etc but worth a go. Certainly a closed system sounds ideal especially if I can use...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Thanks for your advice, I realise the vent extension is a botch but we had run out of ideas. Just checked pump and arrow appears to be pointing toward the control valves. I will try the flow test tomorrow. I can get the rads to work one by one (mentioned at the beginning). I am almost...

Thanks for that, the pump arrow on the casing is pointing upwards and towards the honeywell control valves. Is there any way of checking the airjec without removing it?

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

/another thing! I dont understand why the rads empty when the system comes on at 4.30am from cold for hot water only. I bleed them every night befor going to bed after the heating has switched off. It is programmed for 1 hour hot water at 4am and then the central heating after that. The rads...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

When I said 'bleed the whole house' it seems like there is more air than just in that rad, I can hear a lot of gurgling in the pipes and each rad takes at least 2 mins to bleed as the water comes rushing back in.

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Thanks, all rads are fully open, we were advised (unofficially) to extend the vent pipe below the water line in the tank so that it cannot suck air and this has made no difference. We added inhibitor yesterday. We did have a leak in a downstairs rad after the power flush but this was sorted...

Warm downstairs cold upstairs, anyone any ideas?

Hi I am a newby to the site so please bear with me. I have a 20 year old Stelrad gas system with 13 radiators. It has worked beautifully until recently when it decided to heat some rads and not others and no hot water. Here is a list of what has already been done within the last month...
