    Ring/radial

My Part P course covered all ring main testing. Even the pre-part P introductory course I did covered some. It's difficult to start off with many years experience when you are required to complete two inspected installations before you can join an institute. I'm a bit old to become an apprentice.

    Ring/radial

I'm still mystified about the number of cables in the CU. Guess I need to look inside the CU/post a pic as requested. As for the circuit, I'm assuming it needs to be either made into a ring or rewired 4mm/20A. There are 12 sockets altogether and I think it is under 50m but have to check that cos...

    Ring/radial

The guy who owned the house before us was a bodge up artist (did property maintenance as a job amazingly) so I'm not surprised at what he's done. Perhaps it was a ring originally and he broke it to extend it into the dormer. There are several junction boxes on the first floor. The dormer room is...

    Ring/radial

The up and down "rings" are both 32A. This isn't a great pic but there are five pairs of 2.5 going in the top and four coming out the bottom of the wooden plate. Sorry, just realised you asked for cover off. I'll do that tomorrow if necessary. It's just occurred to me that it's actually just one...

    Ring/radial

Having done Part P I am having a go at upgrading my electrics but have realised that although having the theory is fine the practicalities are more challenging. I've started with the first floor which seems to be laid out as follows:- starting from the dormer room in the roof there is a radial...

    Garage conundrum

This is probably building as much as garden - I've just started clearing a structure from in front of our garage which was falling to bits as it was made of concrete sat on sand, mud and rubble, covered with tiles. It's basically an extension to the garage foundations and quite useful for...

    Wire set in plaster ?

I suppose it could be earth to kitchen extension sockets taken back to a dining room socket but the kitchen is only about 18 years old and why do that instead of earthing the sockets in the kitchen themselves ? Would the wire be wound though if for electrical use ?

2004 Polo rear light replacement ?

All done now with some advice from VW Audi forum. Quite simple actually.

Where to buy soundproofing materials ?

Thanks. It's a fair distance from me (actually where I come from originally) but certainly worth a look.

2004 Polo rear light replacement ?

Does anyone know how to change the lights on a 2004 Polo ? All I can see are small black plastic plugs embedded into the housing in the boot. Is it just a case of undoing the relevant one and the lights are attached ?

Where to buy soundproofing materials ?

I am aware of companies with web sites offering soundproofing boards etc. but I only want to do two small areas about four feet wide each and it seems that to order this stuff you need to spend around £100. Does anyone know anywhere in South(West) London where you can buy exactly what you want ...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

I wasn't going to post a pic as I thought you'd all pull the job to pieces but here goes.

    Wire set in plaster ?

I can safely say it's not live. It certainly doesn't resemble any sort of electrical cable. Being at the back of the house it's unlikely to be connected to telephone lines or an aerial. It looks more mechanical but obviously could not be moved set in plaster. At the moment I am just moving the...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

Just to cover off this topic I finally got the work done by a building contractor for £450 + £170 materials (including fitting a new toilet). They had to run the pipe over the roof mostly as apparently the steel joist holding the dormer room up was in the way underneath.

    Wire set in plaster ?

I was chasing out a wall for a ring main socket and set in the plaster is a wire runnning vertically. It's a bare wound wire, best described as like a bike brake or gear wire and quite taut. The wall was originally an outside wall, with kitchen extension now added, with plaster about 20mm deep...

    Sewage pipe for dormer toilet

I don't mind if he's an Afghan terrorist if he can do the job properly. The plumbers are put off by the tiling and I think the builders can't be bothered because they need to bring a tower through the garage round the back of the house to get to the job. I may speak to my original contact again...
