Thanks to all responses. It was a frozen pipe. After 1 day with the central heating on, the water returned.

After a very cold spell which might have frozen some pipes in the loft i find the water tank in the loft is empty and there is no water coming out of any of the hot water taps. Also there is no water from the cold water taps upstairs.
