Analogue Heat Control to Digital - Wiring?

Hi - my heating system is controlled by an Flash Immermat timer, which packed it in yesterday (switch came off). I thought it would be a good opportunity to replace it with an electronic version with a boost button/7 day timer etc. Got an Invensys/Drayton Tempus 1 controller in B&Q today I...

Is this the right way to lay a floor?

Was thinking I would stagger the plywood underlay and the T&G sections (ie have the cut T&G section hang over the plywood by 3-4 inches then slide the next slab of plywood under and then nail it down) I'm hoping this would give the joins more strength and less likelihood of big gaps opening up...

Is this the right way to lay a floor?

Sorry - didn't get back to this thread, but to clear it up the boards are 18mm thick solid wood - oak I think. They are pretty sturdy and seem to be able to take the movement, (albeit with a lot of creaking) As for the gaps between the battens, it looks like about 60cm (you can see where one...

Thanks WoodYouLike - do you know if there is anyway I can take the floorboards up without wrecking them? (they're glued)

Is this the right way to lay a floor?

Just moved into a new house and the creaking of the floor in the hall and living room has been driving me mad, so I pulled up a board to see what was happening and found this... http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e331/sapper18/IMG_2655_1.jpg The floor is laid on 1 inch battens with...

    Laying carpet over floating floorboards?

Yeah - I read that here before (and apart from stinking up the house for a few hours it didn't seem to do much) but I want to have carpet in my living room floor, not wood (squeaking or no). Just wondering if there is an issue with laying the carpet on the floorboards or if I need to take...

Installing Halogen downlighters under a bathroom?

How much of a no-no is it to install halogen downlighters in a ceiling which is directly underneath a bathoom? My hall is crying out for some downlighting  but one lamp would need to be installed in a spot which is about four inches away from the bath (in the room above) and another...

    Laying carpet over floating floorboards?

I've moved into a new house with oak floorboards over a concrete subfloor. The subfloor itself is uneven and the floorboards were seemingly laid floating, leading to quite a lot of squeaking and creaking when walking around on it. Anyway, I want to lay down carpet over it without removing the...

    Fireback Protruding

Hi Just moved into a new house (built one year ago) and hated the fireplace. I got a wooden surround and a new cast iron insert and today went to put them in, however, the fireback is protruding out of the opening by about 2 inches. Is this normal? This is causing the insert to sit about...

Solid Wood floor - squeaky and springy

Well I'm not sure I remember anyone singing the praises of new developments in Dublin anyway! Actually, I'm going off solid wood flooring these days and was probably going to carpet the main living areas. Don't really want to get rid of the solid wood though as most people would view that as...

Solid Wood floor - squeaky and springy

Solid Wood floor - squeaky and springy

Hi - I'm looking at buying a house which has solid wood, juncker-style flooring. In spots around the house, the flooring is pretty creaky and in someplaces it's a bit springy (you can press up and down on the floor to get the creaking going). I'm told the floor is only a year old.... I'm...

    Wet wooden Sub-Floor in bathroom!

Help! Last year I laid down a new wooden floor (floorboards) throughout my bungalow. I did this by sealing the concrete floor that was already there, laying down a damp proof membrane, a frame of treated battens on top of that and then the floorboards In the bathroom I put chipboard down on...

Electrolux Gas Oven - Knobs hot/melting

Hi - I have an Electrolux EOG 6330 Gas Oven. It has two basic control knobs on the front - one for the grill and another for the oven. When the grill is on, both knobs get hotter and hotter so that after a few minutes the knobs themselves (plastic) start to melt! I'm going to contact...

    Laminate over T&G Floorboards?

My brother is getting a company in to refurbish his floors by getting rid of the old 70's carpet and installing a laminate wood floor in it's place. The only thing is that under the carpet there are perfectly good floorboards, without any visible woodworm etc I reckon it would take a...

Rads cold, pipes cold, but water is hot

I thought someone might have some things that I could check before I call in a pro....How come the boiler is heating the water in the cylinder but not the rads? Just don't want to shell out for something that might be fixable by my humble self.......
