what does it teach you then! i did read somewhere a while ago that it had practical to it as well!! ...... i believed there were elements you can do as well as the main gas safety acs???

does the acs even show you how to change a faulty thermocouple? does it teach you any basic fault finding?!! ...

i kind of get you!! it sayd though the the orifice is open/allowing a small amoutn fo gas through (to bypass) even when the burner is turned off (via the control knob)!

nickso-thanks for your response. i am interested in learning about gas/boilers, etc - i know a bit about plumbing, have done plumbing jobs in the past, not gas though and not on boilers. i understand a bit about how boilers work, components, gas tightness tests, etc. the ACS does it not...

i agree it happens but it is not good, rapid corrosion of the system, rads mainly, will happen. as you say a sealed system would stop this from happening though. i suppose it happens more with htg on and a higher temp as more expansion of the water will happen.

bath/ basin wastes is best with silicone sealant. on both sides of the wase, ie under the lip in the boel and on the underside, then smoothen / wipe off neat.

what do they train you on?? sounds like not very good by the sound of it?? do they teach you the ACS CCN1, is that what is is called??

really!! I was thinking of applying for a trainne job with them!! Maybe not a good idea then? if the pilot kept going out on a permpilot boiler, i'd say it was either a worn t/couple, partially blocked gas filter/injector, incorrect gas pressure/rate? that's guessing i'm not a gas...

sorry i meant triton T80. so oit says in the mfr insturctions booklet (looks quite old). the ivory is in my sisters flat. why is creda the worst make???!! :( it's a CREDA Aqua 9.5 e btw if that helps?

its a creda. got it from B & Q. So i'll have to lengthen or cut the pipe to it? might be tricky cutting a small piece off as its so close to the wall!! what if the cable is too short??

i know its not very much. but when it does, some goes up the cold feed and some the vent and the water in the cwsc is the same level as that in the vent pipe (water always levels). its the same principle with the header tank.

D-Hailsham i disagree with you here. water always levels up and the water in the cwsc will be the same height as that in the vent pipe looping over it. when the water is heated and expands it rises back up the cold feed back and a little up the vent pipe, and thus via the cold feed into the...

Thanks again, I understand now. Will do my best :) I will put the pipe in and the brass nut that goes onto a plastic fitting built into the shower i will do finger tight and line up. then mark the 2 holes. do you reckon the pipe coming in will be ok or will need to be cut back a bit...

if you fit check valves as suggested, you will get no overflowing but poor flow from the hot side of the tap, even with the hot on on its own. ideally you need balanced supplies to the mixer tap.
