    No ring mains??!!

I've no idea really! It's £190 to do one of these reports on a two bed flat. I suppose it depends how long it takes as to what the hourly rate is. £100 was just a guess!

    No ring mains??!!

Good thinking, i'll stock up! There's always the risk they'll be charging me £100+ an hour to eat mince pies and drink tea though!

    No ring mains??!!

Hi Great, i would imagine the electricians will pick up on that then. That sounds expensive too! They didn't manage to come round last week so it'll be wednesday this week now. Fingers crossed!

    No ring mains??!!

Chri5 you're a legend! My main concern was the fact that there was no ring main and that sockets would be on the kitchen circuit. You've answered both. This reassures me that the extra sockets i was planning on doing in the spare room also would be ok. The fact that the wires i have are...

    No ring mains??!!

Just one final question, as i might be able to at least downgrade my place from 'hazard' to just in need of work - can i extend the kitchen circuit into another room? I.e. the wire going to nowhere - i'll just put that into a socket rather than just having it hanging there? What i'll then do...

    No ring mains??!!

Electrician booked. Coming tomorrow afternoon if they finish their previous job early or wedensday next week otherwise. I guess i can ask them what would be the best way to extend the circuits. Thanks for your help. Andy

    No ring mains??!!

Using power outside... not really no - i have done in the past but i don't intend to in the future, most of the outside work has been done already and it's too far to the shared garden to used things outside on a regular basis. Certainly no jet washers no - i don't have a drive or parking space...

    No ring mains??!!

Yes, that was the quite shockign thing - that floating cable is live! I'm going to put a block or something on the end of it short term, but that is what i would connect to one of the extra sockets i was thinking of. Thanks for your help Andy

    No ring mains??!!

This is my point - if that is 'going to kill someone' bad then i need it fixed, if it's ok, just not how someone would do it in an ideal world, then i'll leave it. Thanks Andy

    No ring mains??!!

I think my idea at this stage is to complete the ring main on both the kitchen circuit and the socket circuit. However this will mean the spare room will be running off the kitchen ring main - is this ok? Currently it's running half on the kitchen spur and half as a spur off the socket...

    No ring mains??!!

Just about everything else in this place has been botched and i've spent so much money putting it right just on principal, but i've lost a massive amount of money on it now i just want to focus on what's absolutely necessary, rather than what's 'best practice' or such like. As long as it wont...

    No ring mains??!!

And here's the end of the kitchen 'ring' just swaying in the breeze - not connected to anything. On the wall is the plug socket i was removing.

    No ring mains??!!

Here's the consumer unit with just the five cables coming out. As you can see there are also some boxes holding connector boxes - every cable which comes out of the consumer unit has a connector block between it and wherever it's going, which are under the floorboards. I'll post some more...

    No ring mains??!!

I think the guy who's doing it is 'proper'! He's a local guy and seems pretty sharp and up on all the regulations when i''ve spoken to him. As i say, i don't want to pay for it twice so want to make sure it's right, or at least i know what's wrong so i can get him to fix it and then have the...

    No ring mains??!!

Hi, i have no idea what i was planning on having done - some kind of inspection because the electrician who did some PAT testing on my DJ gear suggested it. If having no ring main will fail it outright i'd rather put the extra cables in then ask the electrician to connect it all up then do...

    No ring mains??!!

Hi I've just been looking into knocking down a plasterboard wall in my flat and had to move a plug socket. In doing so i noticed under the floorbards one end of the kitchen ring main was just hanging there... i.e. it's not a ring main at all! I also found the socket i was removing was just...
