    Glo worm pilot

So, Chris, to be clear, the fact that the pilot won't stay alight with power off the boiler means the problem is not the thermostat. Correct?

    Glo worm pilot

I've got a glowworm fuelsaver MkII - about 17 years old. The pilot went out so I tried to relight it as per the instructions. The pilot lights OK with the spark but goes out when I release the gas control knob after holding it for a long time. I changed the thermocouple but it did not...

    Potterton Puma 80 mystery

A bit too oblique for me Chris. Could you come down to my level? Why does shutting off the cold water allow the CH to run and what needs to be changed? I'd be grateful for Dummies' Guide.

    Potterton Puma 80 mystery

My friend has a problem with a Puma 80 combi. The central heating will only work when you close the valve on the cold water supply (not the filling loop) for domestic hot water. So, when they want hot water they have to open the valve, and then close it again to get CH back. This is...

    Hot water pump??? for bath?

I have the same problem and am contemplating putting in a single impeller pump on my hot water line from the cylinder. The pump will switch on with an in-built flow switch. Suitable pumps are available for under £200. My only concern is that the pump will take away water faster the ballcock can...

    Booster Pump Problem

I have one of these hot water tanks combined with a small cold tank on top. As I get such low pressure hot water I thought of installing a booster pump. The problem is that the flowrate of the pump I want to get is faster than the make-up rate from the ballcock which will cause the cold tank...

    safe pond for a school

Well Breezer, old chap (or old girl possibly, as your name doesn't give clue to your gender), I really, honestly thought I was giving some useful feedback to anyone embarking on a similar project. And I thought that the purpose of this site was to share experiences - hopefully without hysterical...

    safe pond for a school

just to finish the story, we went with "safapond" as recommended by breezer. the kit was good......BUT, some of the components were missing and, on the day we were installing it, no one was available on the help line to report the missing items to or to advise how to get over the problem...

    conservatory roof vent

Thanks, guys. I did an internet trawl and eventually found a couple of companies that offer what I want: agsonline.co.uk and vent.co.uk. I had done a search before but obviously wasn't putting in the right words!

    conservatory roof vent

I have a hardwood conservatory and want to fit a roof vent to keep the top cool. I've searched but can't find anything suitable. I want one that will fit into the polycarbonate roof between the beams which have a distance of about 500mm between them. I would prefer a timber frame but brown...

    safe pond for a school

thanks for the ideas guys. the grid Breezer suggests is just the job, I will get a quote. As for safety aspects, suing etc, we will make sure we get a disclaimer from the school. But surely, no one would accept a free gift of a pond and then sue the ones that gave it when someone...

    safe pond for a school

as part of a community project we are constructing a pond for a primary school. we have to make it safe but we don't want to put a fence round it as it will make it less accessible. any ideas how can put in some anti-drowning device without ruining the look of the pond? grateful for...

    Central Heating Feed Tank Overflowing

you're right coydon. i hang my head in shame. didn't read the question properly. F&E tank, not the cold water tank. Tch! Bloody amateurs!

    Central Heating Feed Tank Overflowing

I had the same problem and it was a hot/ cold mixer letting by with cold mains pressure against hot water from a vented cylinder. The cold water pushed hot water into my cold water tank and caused an overflow. I also saw the haze caused by the hot water. Cured by putting non return in hot pipe...

    Fixing dent in kitchen worktop

Let him repair it but reserve the right to change the whole lot after seeing the result. Also, if it looks OK insist on an extended guarantee on the repair unless it breaks down in use. If you have a new kitchen you have a right for it to be perfect! I wouldn't accept an imperfection like...

    Diagram of Primatic cylinder

I have just taken out my primatic and replaced with a conventional indirect cylinder. Instead of a F&E tank I made a sealed by putting in a expansion vessel, gauge and filling loop. I first checked that my boiler could work on a sealed system.
