radiators hot but not on - valve problem

Hi, From what i've read on here, the problem I have is that the motorised valve which controls where the hot water goes (tank or rads) is broken. While I try and sort out if I can fix it myself  Can i turn off the boiler completely, and use the immersion heater? Will the hot...

New valve for radiator not stopping water

Bit late - but I don't want to be kept awake with worry! I have fitted two new valves for a towel radiator as i'm doing up my bathroom - the radiator is not connected yet though (it's not even delivered yet!). So the valves are both off. The problem is, one of the valves seems to not be...

    New room thermostat

Hi, thanks to all for the clarification It was also my 'assumption' that if it was twin and earth it would be a live feed. The stat is a Sopac? Looking at the wiring now - on the inside of the case there is a wiring diagram As it is wired - Red is connected to 3 Black is connected...

    New room thermostat

    New room thermostat

It's one of those dodgy Potterton boilers that everyone on the internet says keeps breaking! Not a combi As an aside - the whole system needs a bit of an MOT. What else would you suggest is a DIY job? Clean it? Add some of that treatment? Balance the system (some Rads aren't very hot)...

    New room thermostat

thanks for all the replies I agree, wireless not needed - I don't think...the thermostat is already there and wired in, so might as well use that? Will have a look at the wiring into the current stat, and take it from there.

    New room thermostat

thanks for the quick reply so in order to proceed, what do I need to check with my current system? Have a look at the room thermostat - check the wiring - what am I looking for? When you say 'either' - what do you mean. I only want to replace the thermostat in the room. I'm assuming...

    New room thermostat

Hi, I'm trying to improve our new home's central heating, and have been recommended by a work colleague to get a Programmable Room Thermostat. I don't quite understand all the terminology, so i have a few questions; Can i just replace my old mechanical thermostat with anything? What does...

Central heating not working on Timer mode

airlocks in the pipes - how do you bleed those? would that be on the FAQ? i've bled the Rads. Why would an airlock stop the boiler coming on during 'auto', but not during 'constant'?

Central heating not working on Timer mode

Central heating not working on Timer mode

an update left the CH on all night - dropped the temp to 16 so it wouldn't be too hot/cold problem - woke up - felt cold  - rads not warm Checked boiler - it had locked out, pressed reset, CH back on again Still the same with the timer obviously What's going on?

Central heating not working on Timer mode

Hi I seem to have an issue with the timer on my central heating system. We moved into new house a few weeks ago, I checked the boiler, and checked the heating/hot water - all seemed fine. Some of the upstairs rads were a little cool, so bled them - lots of air - all seemed fine. Until...

    broken TRV

is the pin part of the head/big nut and not the actual t valve then? I just assumed that you had to shut off the rad otherwise water would come through. so to clarify - undo big nut, replace head in a full on position?

    broken TRV

that's what I hoped to hear - i presume the pin being in an 'up' position is effectively keeping the valve in a closed position? when i put the new one on, does it need to be in an off/on position - does it matter? thanks for the quick reply

    broken TRV

Hi, I have a drayton head from a rad downstairs. It has broken off - vacuuming i think! Is it just a case of buying a replacement head for the valve, and attaching it the the top of the valve? If I take the old head off, won't the water leak through - as the valve won't be shut off? thanks
