    Running cables under ground floor

So i take it this is what mikhailfaradayski was talking about when he said i was breaking the law, not in regards to any work that was done that is not within regs?

    Running cables under ground floor

Well thank you for your help its much appreciated. On the off chance i don't suppose you'd know how i'd be breaking the law, as one of the previous posters has indicted, in doing this. If like i said it will all be certified.

    Running cables under ground floor

I know what you mean and i myself would like to keep the cables out of sight. There is a cavity already there but i'm afraid if i run down this then the cables won't be adequatley supported also i'm not sure but isn't there a building reg against it?

    Running cables under ground floor

Thank you for your reply, i can't run anything in the walls as they are brick walls and the customer would like them to stay like that so even for the sockets on these walls i will have to use a short bit of conduit coming up from the floor. Yeah i do also know about the effects of running...

    Running cables under ground floor

Is that normal? Do you mean floorboarding (T+G or chip sheets) or laminate flooring? i think its chip sheets being layed on top of the insulation it may do. The amount of gap between the concrete and the floorboards may lend itself to other options. What other options do you mean...

    Running cables under ground floor

You must have a very sad life, you seem to spend all day on here being a miserable as you can about any question asked. I've just asked a question which i'm quite sure of the answer and have even backed up what i thought was ok with a regulation yet you still have a moan. Do me a favour a crawl...

    Running cables under ground floor

Where are the cables coming from? The cables are being run from the consumer unit How are the floorboards fixed over the insulation? The floorboards are apprently just going to go on top of the insulation How thick will the insulation be? Does this matter as i've already said i will cut...

    Running cables under ground floor

This is a little hard to explain and would just like your opinions on it. I've been asked to wire a conservatory for someone and after looking at it have come up with the idea that the best place to run the cables would be under the floor, which is going to be concrete then insulation then...

    6mm on a shower circuit

I see what your saying and thanks for your help think the customer is going to have to bite the bullet and have the cable changed. Thanks again.

    6mm on a shower circuit

Pretty much all of it i'm afraid, i no the cable should be upgraded but if i was to change the rcbo for a 32 what would be they likely hood of this tripping (i.e how often does the shower actually draw 38 amps and will a 32 amp rcbo take much more than 32 amps?)

    6mm on a shower circuit

The shower that is going in is also going to be a 8.5kw shower, the only problem i can see with changing the rcbo to a 32 amp is that on full power the shower will draw nearly 37 amp and so i doubt the 32 amp rcbo will take this.

    Changing a 16th edition CU

What would be the cost of putting in a new 17th edition consumer unit?

    6mm on a shower circuit

Been called to have a look at a shower which is being replaced. The shower which is going in is an 8.5kw but the cable goin to the shower is currently a 6mm2 t+e run in trunking but protected by a 40 amp rcbo, which according to the on regs is not allowed as running it in this way it will...

Different size load and supply for shower.

hypothetically speaking as i fully intend to wire the shower in 16mm t+e but what could be the consequences of running it in 10mm2 bearing in mind the cable will obviously not be used that often and then it will only be used for 5-10 mins at a time?

Distance between consumer unit and gas meter

Bit of topic but would a minor work certificate be needed if you were called to a house to just bond the gas pipe?

Different size load and supply for shower.

Thanks for that, even though i'd be using a 10mm not a 6mm and i would only be changing the cable sizes once (at the shower pull cord) but i still get what your saying so what you suggest is to carry on with the 10mm even though it'll be more costly and time effective? Or would it be...
