Mid position valve - springs to A port when off?

Thanks Matt, yes, I currently believe that it's a somewhat sticky valve. It does indeed go to the rest position when room stats are turned down. I am not going to drain the system down. I can therefore see 2 possible fixes. 1. Use whatever techniques I can to get the actuator free of the...

Mid position valve - springs to A port when off?

And for those of you that were curious, I'm afraid we have no idea who did the installation work as it was about 20 years ago when the house was converted into flats, long before my girlfriend bought the place. The other amazing trick they managed was the way they fitted the cisterns that refill...

Mid position valve - springs to A port when off?

Thanks for the comments. I checked with Tower and the valve labelling is indeed confusing: the indicator shows which port is blocked. So the valve is connected the right way round. Upon investigation, I can make the valve move to the "B open" or "AB" position. I believe that microswitch S1...

Mid position valve - springs to A port when off?

Thanks for the responses. You're forcing me to be a little clearer in my thinking. It is quite possible that the valve is the wrong way round given the level of incompetence the installer showed (one of the radiators is installed as a dead leg with no flow through it - just a single pipe!)...

Mid position valve - springs to A port when off?

I'm trying to repair a Y-plan central heating system and have traced the problem to the mid position valve. It's the Tower version of this device. The device seemed permanently in mid position and never produces a voltage on the orange wire. However, I then discovered that when it's switched...

Old heating system with two adjacent thermostats - what?

I've done some digging and have managed to edit together a couple of Honeywell wiring diagrams to show how a Frost Stat is supposed to be connected to a traditional Y Plan system. Full wiring diagram below. Cheers Alan

Old heating system with two adjacent thermostats - what?

For what it's worth, here are some images. 1. The thermostats. 2. Inside the thermostats. 3. Kitchen wall plates where controller is mounted 4. Amazing junction box. The supposedly-broken zone valve is still wired in by the looks of it. I can probably have a go at...

Old heating system with two adjacent thermostats - what?

The wiring is entirely hidden and the colours inside the stats don't seem to match the wiring in the kitchen where the controller is. I will try to take a picture of the inside of the stats and post it. The controller is one that I installed onto the pre-existing wall mount point (it has the...

Old heating system with two adjacent thermostats - what?

I have just started investigating anew the heating setup at my girlfriend's flat. The heating system is currently bodged to use the hot water channel only of the CH controller, using the controller's timer. The zone valve does not work and is permanently in a "hot water plus CH" mode and the hot...
