    one for dingbat

A good starter would be IEE BS7671:2008 wiring regulations and the on-site guide! Then there are guidance notes - seperate publications that are specific to certain areas, i.e. guidance note 3: inspection and testing. There is a seperate IEE publication for earthing and bonding.

    voltsticks

Yep..... I have a fluke voltstick that operates on voltages above 100v, it was about £15, my apprentice has a voltstick (from maplin i think) for about 8 pound, it is far to sensitive, it will light up on walls floors or totally random stuff that is totally impossible to become live. Some are...

    two sets of bathroom lighting

You can get Dimmable pull cords. pull and let go to switch on/off, or pull and hold, then let go when required level of brightness is gained. As for lights, they should be enclosed (lamps not exposed) for a bathroom that small, When you are buying, make sure the light is suitable for the zone...

    supplementary bonding

Does the existing electrical installation in the bathroom comply with 17th edition? I.e. are all circuits in the bathroom protected by 30mA RCD? If they are and you can guarantee your disconnection times, the bonding is not required.

    Settle an arguement lads!!

So when has a ceiling not been a partition then? I think i would personally install some form of RCD just to cover my own arse!

    Settle an arguement lads!!

If the cables are in the loft then surely it requires 30mA RCD? they are not in metallic tube and not buried less than 50mm and could easily become damaged moving boxes around etc?

    split post: Euro plugs

The white plug is the 'French Schuko' it has a hole in the middle for an earth connection so is polarity concious. The Black plug is a 'German Shuko' it has metal grooves on the sides to allow a connection to earth. It is not polarity concious which is not good (you can revers L & N by inserting...

    melting point

IIRC there is a similar device on the market used in socket outlets - I remember reading it in Professional Electrician, it detects over heating and puts a small spike on the circuit to trip MCB/RCD/RCBO!

    BS60947-2 MCCB

Where did you get this information? Maximum Ze permitted for a TT system is 21ohms. And as the impendance cannot be guaranteed (soil resistivity changing) a 300mA time delayed RCD should be installed at the intake point of TT systems
