    Creaking joists. Help!

The chipboard was crappy and cheap and not well screwed down. I'm glad we're replacing it. Also installing some rockwool 75mm RWA whilst we have everything lifted up. As you say Andy, the challenge is whether the guys i have around can address the joists. They are doing a great job with...

    Creaking joists. Help!

Thanks all. No T&G on this one. We are going for 18mm ply and screwing down regularly. We are not using glue. Not sure whether that is the solution to the root cause or not. Will do some more investigation of the joists this morning with the carpenters. I hope these guys are capable of looking...

    Creaking joists. Help!

Hi guys We moved in to a new house which was only built 13 years ago. It had a horrendous creaking first floor and you can hear everything when downstairs. We are in the process of ripping out all of the chip board and replacing with ply + adding some sound insulation in the gaps. However...

Issue with demister pad on bathroom mirror

Ok. Found the make and model by tapping an obscure code on the back in to Google. Demister is absolutely not meant to be on unless the led is. All the wiring seems to be fine and no other buttons or switches. Will give them a buzz tomorrow. It's made by HiB so maybe they will do the right...

Issue with demister pad on bathroom mirror

Cheers stillp. It's just new to me but built around 13 years ago. I agree that it doesn't seem sensical that it would be on all of the time. I hoped there would be a brand name on the back somewhere but nothing there unfortunately. I'll take it off again tonight and see if there is a way...

Issue with demister pad on bathroom mirror

Thanks stillp. I'll double, triple check that but it's definitely still warm after a whole night of being off. There is a small led on the bottom of the mirror that stays on at all times (kind of like a guide light - quite useful at night actually). Again, not sure if this is expected behaviour.

Issue with demister pad on bathroom mirror

Hi all Sorry for the basic question. I've moved in to a new home and noticed that the demister pad on the led bathroom mirror does not switch off when the mirror lights are switched off. The mirror itself is one of those operated by swiping your hand underneath it to switch the lights on...

Spotlight Help - Transformer or Not?

Cheers Steve! Are you suggesting to go with 240v on the spotlights (if i do go with the spotlights) I checked out those PL lights - assuming they are the energy saving ones - i just didnt like the light from them, it was really white rather than more of a yellow. hmm...decisions...

Spotlight Help - Transformer or Not?

Hi guys Im currently having some spotlights installed around the house (upstairs and down) Im getting lots of conflicting opinions on whether we should have a transformer on the lights or not. Some people are saying that spotlights with transformers blow out quite easily and that they...
