Any obligation to follow LABC's recommendations?

Thanks freddy and woody - between the two of you, you've resolved my doubts.

Any obligation to follow LABC's recommendations?

I'm considering getting LABC in to regularise some work I'd had done. If they decide that 'further work is required to secure compliance with the BRegs', am I under any obligation to carry out such work? Would I instead be able to get a second opinion from another builder, or even just ignore...

    Heat up time for cylinder?

Sorry - think I may have been dense here - I meant there is no external insulation around the cylinder. It is a modern one (I think) - a Telford Tempest installed only a few months ago - so I presume it has internal insulation...?

    Heat up time for cylinder?

Not so much a DIY question, but... is there a 'standard' time for a system boiler to heat an unvented cylinder? i.e. Kw per Litre? I want to be sure my boiler is working properly. (My boiler is 30Kw and I have a 250 l cylinder.) I should add my cylinder is not insulated, although I am...

Can I withhold some payment if no retention in contract?

Update: We moved in a few weeks ago. I have since discovered that my extension roof has been very poorly felted, that the bathroom leaks, that the programmer for the boiler has been incorrectly wired, and various other odds and ends, all of which vindicate my decision to withhold the money...

    Powerflush Advice

How do I go about arranging that? Is that a standard service a plumber/heat engineer would offer? (I am not a DIYer myself) For those of you asking- contractor suggested doing a powerflush, but said it wasn't vital.. didnt mention anything about damaging the boiler..so i chose to wait

    Powerflush Advice

Would you mind explaining why (to the ignorant)? Also, I have got a quote from a company who also suggested fitting a 'MagnaClean filter' for £115+vat - should I take them up on it?

    Powerflush Advice

I am considering a Powerflush done at my London house - 12 rads. Newly installed Vaillant boiler and Tempest unvented cylinder but radiators are prob +30 years old and at least one has lots of mucky black sludge. (Having said that, only have cold areas in 2/3 of the rads) My question is -...

Vaillant EcoTec boiler - HW only when CH is on ?!

No I am not and i have no idea why you think that is the case. You misunderstand me. I am just asking if the possibility that it is the wiring, is more than a likelihood, but a certainty (seeing as it cannot be the non-existent diverter valve)

Vaillant EcoTec boiler - HW only when CH is on ?!

Thanks. Just checked - I have a system boiler not a combi - so would that rule out the possibility of it being the Diverter Valve failing (acc to Vaillant manual, only the combi has a DV; the system doesn't)?

Vaillant EcoTec boiler - HW only when CH is on ?!

I imagine I'm not the first to bring up this problem, but anyway: My newly installed unvented system incorporates a Vaillant EcoTec 630 boiler and Honeywell ST9400C digital programmer. Installed a few months ago but only moved into house a couple of weeks ago so barely used. First problem...

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

Thanks for the reassurance. :) Not really that bothered about the mess, if safety has not been compromised, as you have guessed cupboard would be closed most of the time.

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

Thanks for the tip. Was planning on cutting a wood block to size to support the pipe (and tilt it downhill) but a nail may be easier

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

Had a closer look over the weekend and discovered that you were right - the condensate pipe had fallen out as not clipped - I had initally mistaken it for a separate pipe next to the condensate drain...! Will get installer to see to it (i think pipe needs to be cut so that travels...

AHA! So you are interested.. I'll have to get you that photo then...You gonna be online Sat nite/Sunday?

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

i do indeed. However, GS say they cannot inspect every single system requested. I'll think I'll try anyway :) thanks

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

i have to admit it's a bit of a lousy photo. Will post a much nicer (sharp) one on Sat nite (if you're still interested!) Re your previous comment, I thought that it did look rather messy...does that mean it's not safe? Should I pay someone (how much?) to inspect the installation?

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

i don't (think you quite) understand. the white plastic pipe IS attached to the last spout on the right. are you saying it should be attached instead to the spout on its left?

Vaillant Condensate drain pipe not attached?!

You can see the white pipe on the far right- the open 'spout' is on its immediate left (per above diagram) but no really visible in the photo
