    Size of bush problem!

Not the sort that could be sorted with a razor but one of too little thread. Looking for a 3/4m to 1/2f bush to tail an old, old rad. Problem is the only ones I can find have only 10mm of thread, which due to the design of these rads, just isn't long enough to get a seal because you can only...

    Powermax needs descaling.

Customer had Heat Team service her Powermax (forgot to ask which model) and said it needs a powerflush descale. Powerflush :D Powermax :( . Have always avoided them and a forum search didn't fill me with confidence about them. Anyone got any experience of de-scaling one? Should I give it a...

    Biasi 24S diverter problem?

I try not to do breakdowns but I have to visit a Biasi with the following symptoms. Works fine on CH alone. No boiler response on HW alone but water heats if CH on already. No previous breakdown history- HW just stopped. Is that most likely the diaphragm? Would anyone be kind enough to talk...

    Honeywell gas valve.

Have a Mexico with Honeywell gas valve and the boiler has stopped firing. Pilot ok and getting power to valve from the programmer when appropriate. Any ideas anyone aside from replacing the valve? Thanks.

    Swinging sixties!

Never seen this before- was it common practice way back then? Looked at a job today to change some very old rad valves on some very old radiators. The elderly chap was a 'Qualified heating engineer' but not a fitter, design and sales it seems, retiring at the end of the sixties. Anyway, it...

    Edited cylinder question.

I'm dealing with a cylinder where one of the indirect threads won't accept a union inside, warped or something. If it will go on, is it ok to fit an iron onto the thread and go from there?

    4 core isolation.

Hello guys, can't get hold of my spark to ask today and need a clue to prepare a job so- I want to add local isolation to a four core (LNE and switch live) flex to a boiler. Is there a switch that incorporates the extra terminal? Thanks.

    What's this valve for?

Cylinder flow 22mm, return 15mm into what looks alot like an angled rad valve. Has same (?) 3/4" fitting before going back to 22mm. Those sizes may be imperial as its a 1971 arrangement. The valve has no spindle head but a screw inside and a little plastic cap. I've seen it discussed somewhere-...

    Colours of sludge.

What's the difference, (apart from the colour) between black (magnetite?) and the chocolate brown stuff? Are they caused by different things? Saw web site once where it was all explained but have forgotten and can't find it.Thanks.

    Condensate soakaway- elusive limestone chippings.

Tried Travis Perkins, Wickes, B&Q's website, plus several garden centers but just can't find any. Will try roofing merchants next. Anyone have a clue who stocks them? I'm in Essex, M25 area. Ta.

    28mm ABV

Planning an install with 28mm primaries and wanted to go s plan- but then I saw the price of a 28mm ABV. Anyone know of one that's less than about £90+vat? Are they all angled or is there a straight one anywhere in 22mm? If not it'll have to be Y plan and go in after the 3 port. Ta.

    Condensate purpose built soakaway.

Best place to get one and rough cost anyone? Saw an interesting c/drain today. Came out of a building on first floor in 22 plastic. dropped down about 18" into 32mm waste. Couldn't see but may well have been open to the air there. The 32 went about 18 meters around the building and just before...

    Glowworm-side ways Honeywell gas valve.

Had trouble before cracking the screws on the test nipples but this time the inlet/purge nipple just won't budge. It faces sideways so you can only get a short screwdriver on it (fine once opened for the first time). Anyone know if/where I can get a z shaped driver with a small enough head in...

Turbomax (side door, black with green knobs).

5 1/2 year old Vaillant tmax. Once in a blue moon used to not fire on hw. Now becoming more frequent, four times today apparently, to the point that the gestapo is threatening to get someone in to fix it (oh the shame) if I don't deal with it soon. Now fault finding/repair hasn't been my thing...

    Mortar problem.

Hi guys. Builder bloke bricked up where an old flue had been for me. Only about a dozen bricks but the mortar (sand and cement) is 'orribly the wrong colour and its fallen to me to put it right. The bricks are red stocks and the mortar, although only 15 years or so old, looks like plain sand...

    Standard iron size?

My turn's come around again to look silly but I've never touched this stuff before. Iron looking water pipe, light grey/silvery smooth finish. I'm guessing galvanised. Roughly 3/4inch od, look like 1/2 irons. Hoping the threads are standard size. Please do tell because I have to replace a...

Anyone know of any lawful impediment...

or other reason not to use a pipe that previously held water for gas? ie. Want to convert a 28mm primary to gas as it runs through a place where I can't get access. I've considered the need to pressure test it and probably find a way of cleaning it- anything else?????

    Come on brains!

Saw a newly re-located open vented cylinder today with a couple of things I thought odd. Firstly the feed vent set up was 'H' shaped. The flow came up and became the vent, the feed came down and became the flow. The link (flow) was 150mm and the pump on the exit leg of the 'H'. Isn't this a...

    Have a laugh on me!

Needed to drain a system today. Only drain cock in lounge over lovely beige carpet. Plastic down, old towel down, hose attached, open nut- nothing coming out. Tap tap. Bang bang. Nothing. Undo nut some more, then some more, then right out. Have just the nut, pin and plunger still in there. (Was...
