    Broken fan?

Hi thanks for replies. Sorry signal was probably the wrong word to use as I'm just using a volt stick to indicate if a current is present. The fan works independently from the light switch and whilst I was doing all the wiring/testing the bathroom light was on (it's on a separate switch)...

    Broken fan?

Hi I've just replaced a non timer fan with a timer fan and the timer fan will not come on. Original set up. Wall switch to isolator to fan. The non timer fan only used the brown cable and grey (w/blue sleeve) cable. Earth and black (w/black sleeve) cables present but left redundant - I...

    bathroom ventilation

Hi Sorry a bit long winded but I'll try and explain as best I can. I have a main bathroom next to a ensuite bathroom. Extraction in the main bathroom is via an inline extractor. The ensuite has a wall extractor and it doesn't do a great job. What i'd like to do is to add an inline extractor...

    Spur off socket?

Hi I need to spur off from a socket in one bedroom through the wall to another. It’s a simple job which I’ve done before but just wanted to know whether or not you actually need to be Part P registered in order not to invalidate house insurance etc. Cheers S

Residence 9 windows - Fair price

Hi mate Unfortunately, that's not all in. It's what I've calculated fitting to be after paying for the windows. It works out at £826 per window on average to supply and fit. For all the windows there are 44 panes in total and the cost per pane would be £331. (not sure if I should be working it...

    Ardex DPM 1C question

Hi Just bought this (Ebay) and just realised its version Feb 2017 but this stuff only has a shelf life of 12 months. Do you think it's still OK to use or has anyone done so? I have talked Ardex technical support who said that for legal reasons they have to say that but that its tested up to 18...

    Repairing screed floor

Hi I've had to chop away a section of screeded floor (about 4m x 15cm) to reroute some pipe work and now have to repair it. The thickness of the screed floor varies from 4 to 7 cm. I need the to be floor ready in about 25 days but realise you normally allow 1 day per 1 mm drying time. The final...

    Carpet on concrete floor

Hi I was assuming that the skirting board was level but that seems slightly out. The only way of knowing is when I remove all the laminate and get a level on there. I think I'll go for new skirting as the old stuff has taken lots of knocks over the years. I'll do a moisture test too. Thanks...

    Carpet on concrete floor

Hi I'm removing old laminate floor (currently sitting on black plastic) and will be placing a carpet on the concrete floor. The floor is not level as there is variation from the floor to skirting board of 20-25mm. What would be the best course to take? 1. Prime floor 2. DPM 3. Self levelling...

    Warm roof construction

Initially building control wanted a VCL at ceiling level. The builder said this was impractical due to spot lights being fitted etc. They then agreed to use foiled PIR to act as a vapour barrier. The building control guy has been round twice to confirm this after I raised my concerns. All the...
