    Central heating not working

Mmmm...now I've really confused myself. in my last post I said that the pipes had got hot, and a couple of the rads had started to get warm. I left it all alone for a couple of hours and then went back to have a look and I don't understand what I found: The actuator is still removed from...

    Central heating not working

Hi there - I've done a bit more trouble-shooting and this is what I found. I took the actuator off the valve and turned the CH on (with HW turned off). The valve motor operated normally, and when it reached it's full limit the lever hit the microswitch and...the pump turned on. The boiler is...

    Central heating not working

Thanks Boilerman. I've taken the valve actuator off and it is a Honeywell product. From what you've said, do I understand that its not just the round motor in the middle that needs replacing (since this appears to be working) but the whole unit? I turned the heating on with the actuator in...

    Central heating not working

Hi there, please can someone help me fathom out what's wrong with my heating: The hot water works fine, and when the programmer commands the water to be heated, the boiler fires up, the pump starts running, the 2-way valve opens and everything is working OK. However, the rads never get hot...

    Hot water OK, no heating

Thanks everyone - I followed your advice and the problem is now sorted. It was the synchron motor in the CH valve. Fitted a new one and the heating is now working again (just in time for the British summer...). :D

Zero volts at the room stat

I have tested the unit again and got 240V between Terminals 1 and 2 with the heating switched on, so it looks like the unit works after all. Thanks for your help

Zero volts at the room stat

Hi everyone. I have been trying to fix a central heating problem with help from people on the plumbing forum. Someone suggested I check there is 240V to the room stat, which I have done, and I seem to have an electrical fault. The room stat is a Honeywell T6360, and I have tested it with a...

    Hot water OK, no heating

Mmmm...thanks for the 240V tip. I put a multimeter on the room stat and it indicates zero volts so looks like an electrical snag (or I'm placing the multimeter on the wrong terminals which is entirely possible - I'm putting the live on 1 and the neutral on 3 (Honeywell T6360)). Perhaps I...

    Hot water OK, no heating

Thanks Plumbgas - I removed the cover on the valve motor, then unscrewed the 2 screws and removed the motor (didn't get wet). The valve spindle turns easily so it wasn't stuck closed - however, moving the valve manually still doesn't bring the heating on. So with the room stat turned to max...

    Hot water OK, no heating

Thanks for your advice. Before I go and buy a new valve (or motor), is there a way I can tell if the valve is actually faulty? If I use the 'manual lever' on the valve, then I am pushing against some resistance, so the valve is closed. But with it manually pushed open, the CH still doesn't...

    Hot water OK, no heating

Hi everyone - this is my first post so please excuse any crimes... I've searched the forum, and tried a few things as a result but to no avail, please help: I have a relatively new system, only about 5 years old. The boiler is a Glow Worm 38Hxi, it is a closed system with an expansion...
