easiest question ever for a plumber

hi Doitall You're right except the rubber washer on the overflow inside the cistern has perished and needs replacing. I've now got an overflow pipe I can't remove but need to get a new rubber washer on. putting a slit on the rubber washer is a big no-no I presume and defeats the object???

great video - just what I need. Wish I'd known it was called "close coupled" then I wouldn't have had to bother you. Just waiting for WD40 to do its job on the sticky nut

easiest question ever for a plumber

That's exactly what I'm going to do - update the inner workings. I didn't realise there was no need for an overflow with the modern system. pics below. The issue is I can't see how to get the old syphon out without taking the cistern off because I can't access the underside of the cistern...

easiest question ever for a plumber

toilet needs a new syphon which can't be unscrewed from outside the cistern because the cistern butts up right against the pan. am I doing the right thing to take the cistern off? I can't seem to release the syphon solely from inside. I get your point about sacrificing the overflow

easiest question ever for a plumber

This is the overflow pipe on a toilet. I want to undo the pipe so I can remove the cistern. "A" moves freely, no problem. "B" and "C" seem to be stuck together. They do turn in relation to the metal pipe, and when they turn the plastic pipe turns with them. I don't know which parts I...

Building regs expert needed - RSJ, single skin wall etc

Newbie here. Some work was done on my house without planning permission in 2003 before I bought it. For whatever reason I wasn't made aware of the lack of consent when I bought the house but that's another story.... Work that was done: Kitchen knocked into dining room, RSJ installed...

Cheers for the research. That one's not quite right but one of their others looks spot on!

can you identify the make of this toilet?

Will take a pic when I get home. I need a new cistern lever. It's not the standard type so incredibly hard to find. Basically it's short and stubby and presses down like a pedal-bin lever, instead of turning down like the hand of a clock like most types.

can you identify the make of this toilet?

I need spares for a toilet but it has no brand name on it anywhere. Inside the cistern it has the letters SY and the date of manufacture, but otherwise all it says is Made In Britain. It has a paddle-type cistern lever but apart from that is bog standard. pun intended. Thanks in advance

I need an unusual toilet cistern flush handle

Hi everyone, I need a replacement flush handle for a toilet. I hope I explain this without getting in a twist: The plane of rotation of most toilet levers is parallel to the side of the loo, but I want a handle that turns perpendicular to this i.e. its AXIS of rotation is along the side...

    Vaillant Turbomax problem

    Vaillant Turbomax problem

It's the Plus. No fault codes and the pressure is fine. At the moment the boiler is turning itself on and off in bursts of a few minutes. Most of the time the yellow light is failing to turn on but when it does, the temp goes up to the desired level but then falls right back down again...
