Grant oil fired combi sooting up photocell regularly

Hmm interesting, mine is outside in a sort of courtyard where wind does swirl about, it has just the little nozzle exhaust pipe a few inches out the boiler, behind a cage, nothing else, it's directed away from the house but that is an interesting point. However, in the 13 years since installed...

Grant oil fired combi sooting up photocell regularly

@Johntheo5 Yes, serviced in April 2023, needed new heat exchanger as old was leaking, along service report I got a print out with KANE on the top (analyzer brand I assume) but very faint text on the print out though, looks like CO2 11.5% / O2 5.8% / CO 6ppm -

Grant oil fired combi sooting up photocell regularly

Hi all, yes boiler problem at Christmas, of course. My Grant combi 26e external boiler stopped firing last weekend, kept heard it repeatably trying to fire up. Read on here about the photocell in the Riello buner so checked and it was very sooty (black) and cleaning it restored operation...

    DAMP/VENTILATION/AIR BRICKS NEEDED?

Yeah probably worth a shot, many have found it helps them.

    DAMP/VENTILATION/AIR BRICKS NEEDED?

I got the heated PIV nuaire version, installed it probably 7 years ago and have never once used the heater element as not really found the need...sure you do get a slightly cool downward draught when standing underneath the fan vent in the hall at top of stairs, but by the time the air has gone...

    DAMP/VENTILATION/AIR BRICKS NEEDED?

A sealed up house might well suffer from moisture, those sealed up airbricks might be the first thing I'd sort out just to get the house breathing again. Do you have extractor fan in kitchen and the bathroom and use them? do you dry clothes indoors? all that creates moisture that might...

Add socket to ring and tidy up

Hi, I'd like to add a 13amp socket to the existing ring mains, this is the upstairs ring and there's an old junction box where i want to insert the socket, so assumed an simple job. TE cable '1' is about 2 metres from the RCD CU and '2' is the ongoing ring I want to insert the socket here...

Flat / Slimline 3 pin plugs?

The Volex pre-wired mains cables are pretty slim moulded plugs, I haven't got one to hand but about the slimmest I've seen, maybe of use? CPC Farnell link

    Corroded water mains pipe

Thanks, this house has had many bodges done by previous owners so assume the worst. Luckily this pipe enters under the last cabinet, next to the back door, so not much to remove/excavate...do we take a route out the back, around the side of house, across drive to the front mains as I think...

    Corroded water mains pipe

That's been my approach so far! :D I looked at a pic I took 12 months ago (I didn't realise it was so long back) and pipe looks identical, there is a dodgy looking bit on the left where it's thinner but no change in 12 months.... but I know it can't last forever. Does anyone know what the...

    Corroded water mains pipe

Hi, my mains water pipe is 12mm copper that comes out of the concrete kitchen floor, last year when replacing dishwasher I noticed white fluffy salts, around the pipe and carefully cleaned them away and noted the ancient 12mm copper pipe covered in corrosion and it appears to be thinner than the...

    Does chemical damp proofing work?

I'm no expert at all but when I had some minor damp issues, I looked at the likely sources before trying to remedy. Is there a leaking pipe? is the ground level outside bridging the damp proof course, failing bricks or motar, leaking gutters, missing roof tiles, basement, high water table etc...

Add 2nd socket to existing spur socket

I assumed I need a fused spur before the first (existing) 13amp socket I have on my spur rather than the fuse being in the sockets I fit, so that everything after the fused spur is protected.

Add 2nd socket to existing spur socket

Yes I think I'll do that, my CAD drawing didn't accurately capture that
