Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

This contradicts what was previously said by another poster about positive pressure via a spot cooler? I guess im struggling here to get the best from it. Maybe just have to resign to the fact I need something bigger like 15000 btu or it’s just gonna be warm up there. I don’t want to spend or...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

Another thought... around the positive pressure approach It was previously mentioned about putting my unit outside of my loft and then vent the cold air in, creating a positive pressure. I'm yet to do this test as trying to source a connector that will fit on the front - work in progress...

Or save up.. By then the hot weather will be gone and the 5000 BTU unit will be doing ok... until next summer...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

I’ve just been looking at the spot cooler that u mentioned (Fral SC14). Looks like it would tick the box but trying to get something in stock anywhere at the min seems impossible. Also £500 is way over my budget of around £350 but I guess u get what u pay for!

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

Well this thing didn’t fit. I will look to get hold of the one ragaz linked. Out of interest, we are saying 5000 BTU isn’t really enough for a loft of this space. What BTU would be ok for a loft of this space? Just thinking if I ever change the unit I would get bigger, ie 15000 BTU (would...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

Thanks all for the feedback and suggestions so far. I'm pretty much stuck with the unit I have so will work on the adaption tests to see if keeping it outside the loft and venting just the cool air in will work better, however ultimately the message I am getting is that this unit isn't powerful...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

I’ve had a quick look at the unit to see if I could easily tape a 3” vent hose to the front but because of the flap size and fact it moves I need something 6.5” x 3” even though the vent itself is only 2” x 3”. Any suggestions? We have a screw fix near me so could pop down there.

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

I did do a test the other day but not this test. It was just using it the standard way. At 6pm in the event. 23C outside. 29.5C in the loft. In 1 hour it cooled from 29.5C to 27.3C so 2.2C cooler in 1 hour. Is this good or bad? It did seem to slow cooling after that so maybe some of the...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

Ok, I'm getting it now.. Regarding the test by putting the unit near the entry of the loft. Could I just position to vent so its pointing up and blowing into the loft (its got a swing vent that can set in one position so I should be able to send the air in to the loft whilst keeping the unit...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

I’m out and about today so may not be able to test that however if by having the unit outside of the loft then it’s not sucking up and venting the hot air from the loft, only blowing cold air in to the loft. I’m by far no expert but surely removing the hot air by exhausting it would be best...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

No worries. I would call that the front but no problem. Thank you for the suggestion. Do you have to be careful how long the hoses are that go on these things to vent out?

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

No the cold air comes out the front flap above where it says Modern Life. The vent u see is hot intake.

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

Thanks all Any suggestions on how to duct the cold air from the front of the unit. Would obviously want to ensure a good seal etc.. This is the unit I have:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073RB912B/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_3p_dp_1?tag=diynotcom-21

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

ragaz, That is very useful and makes sense. Thank you. With this in mind and the fact the other air has to come from somewhere else, then if the air on the landing is cooler than in the loft then surely I would be best having the lid open and have it closed if the air in the eves etc is...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

For some reason I missed that whole post from you and started reading from post #3. I won't be able to close the hatch fully when up there so was thinking of making some sort of insulation pad/bag and just lay it over when up there... Any suggestions.

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

This is the one I have got and in question:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B073RB912B/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_3p_dp_1 I understand that a loft is a lot harder to cool but are there any suggestions to improve on what I already have without spending another £450 on a new unit that is more...

Aircon in loft struggling to bring temp down

In my loft I have created a clean, and slightly insulated storage area by boarding and installing some foil bubble wrap insulation where I store and occasionally read books (its not a conversion but just tidy storage). Its size is approx 3m x 3m and is pitched roof. The foil comes down from...
