    New extractor fan in bathroom

Thanks Sparkyspike. I hadn't thought of the override switch option. As for the junction boxes they would be screwed to the sides of the joists in the loft and easily accessible. However if it is likely my LABC would rather it was done the way you suggest I could change it. I'll give them a ring...

    New extractor fan in bathroom

Apologies before I begin on the rambling nature of this post. Moved into my house a year ago an it needed an emergency re-wire. All done and certified but we didn't really have a lot of time to think about what we wanted and now the missus wants the light in the bathroom changed and a fan...

    Gas service pipe

Can anyone tell me who is responsible for the gas service pipe up to the meter in my property. I know it's mine after the meter and with water the service pipe is my responsibility from the boundary stop cock but I don't know about the gas. The reason I'm asking is that I'm getting my central...

    Which new boiler

Just checked the flow rate from the kitchen tap and got 16 litres in 62 seconds. It's a mixer type tap with small bore pipe through so I don't know if that makes a difference. A bit more testing this time from the bath tap and I got nearly 20 litres in 1 minute so I guess the flow rate is OK...

    Which new boiler

Thanks for the info so far. I haven't spoken to any of the guys that have been round personally as I've always been at work, the missus has dealt with them, I've only seen the quotes. I did speak to one of them on the phone whilst at work as the wife was trying to explain that the existing CH...

    Which new boiler

I have just has some quotes for a new combi boiler and central heating install but I don't know which boiler to go for. I live in a 3 bed double glazed semi with cavity wall insulation. There is a total of 10 radiators and I have an upstairs bathroom with a shower over the bath and also a...

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Thanks for all the assistance guys but I think I've solved it. Shorted out the switch as advised by ChrisR (it is one of the newer black switches) and the boiler works fine. So, replaced the switch and all is OK. Took the switch to work and gave it to one of the electricians to look at. He put a...

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Yes, I remember the old turqoise microswitch, it got very crudded up by a leak from the old type diverter valve, the one with the plastic base. This microswitch came with the new valve and is black and adjustable in position via a small crosshead screw. I might just replace it anyway and...

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Also, I've just remembered, why would the HW demand light appear dim or flicker sometimes. Could I just have a dodgy connection somewhere?

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Namsag, I watch the arm on the diverter depress the microswitch arm and can hear it click (when the kids aren't screaming in the background). I have also taken it out but left it connected then depressed it manually just to be sure and it still works fine. What I can't fathom is this. The boiler...

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Thanks namsag. I have removed the microswitch and operated it manually and it always seems to work just fine. Would a faulty switch cause the water light to flicker? I will try all the connections back to the board though.

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

Rob884, Thanks for your reply, would that be the NTC temperature sensor or the O/H thermostat? I don't seem to have a thermistor specifically mentioned in my manual.

Turbomax 242E hard to light when using DHW.

I have a Vaillant Turbomax 242E (might be 282E, not sure) which is very difficult to get going when drawing hot water. First let me say that when there is a demand for central heating it seems to work perfectly. When turning on a hot tap though, nine times out of ten, the boiler will go through...

Vaillant VUW 242E hot water problem

Thanks for that information. I think that the heat exchanger is fairly straightforward to remove/refit but is there a particular chemical I should use and how long do I leave it for? Also, will I need new seals? On the same subject I have just noticed that whenever I run the hot water I get a...

Vaillant VUW 242E hot water problem

The water in my area (South coast near Portsmouth) is quite hard and I often have to descale the shower. The hot water temp is set quite high at the moment because of this problem and the boiler has never been descaled since it was fitted. Has been serviced though. Do you think descaling the DHW...

Vaillant VUW 242E hot water problem

I have a Vaillant VUW 242E (or it might be a 282, not sure), about 7 years old. The heating works fine but I can only draw hot water from any hot tap at a very slow rate to keep the burners lit. If I use the shower or turn the taps on full the boiler cycles on and off with the water going hot...
