Adding air admittance valve between bath and shower traps

Interesting. I will have to measure the fall on the pipework, though (Hepvo needs at least 10° it seems), and it's pretty tight against the wall and the floor - I don't know if the compression fittings on a hepvo would fit. I had planned on using a solvent welded tee for that reason. Suppose I...

Adding air admittance valve between bath and shower traps

Erk. Unfortunately in this case, running a separate waste would require removing a slate roof. And that would be the easy bit... I'll just have to be diligent about cleaning the waste pipes out!

Adding air admittance valve between bath and shower traps

    Unfortunately, that's not possible.

Smells from sink when appliances drain - need anti vac trap?

Unfortunately, I can't really do that as the waste pipe goes underneath the floor. To tie anything else into it, I'd have to rip out the whole utility room, take up the engineered wood floor, then start pulling the floorboards up... Bit of an oversight really that I didn't plan in the waste...

Adding air admittance valve between bath and shower traps

Occasionally we get some bad smells when the bath is emptying, accompanied by gurgling sounds from the shower trap. I think this means the bath emptying is sucking the water out of the shower trap, which can be addressed by adding an air admittance valve. Am I right in thinking that the AAV...

Smells from sink when appliances drain - need anti vac trap?

I won't give up! Thinking about it, I probably do need to sort out the waste pipes. My dishwasher is to the right of the sink, then the washing machine is to the right of that; so, I had to fit a waste pipe extension to the washing machine... there's a fair bit of that coiled up under the...

Smells from sink when appliances drain - need anti vac trap?

Excellent info, thanks all! I'll replace the trap with a wm11v, and see if I can re-route the waste hoses; I'm not too hopeful about that though, options are limited for access.

Smells from sink when appliances drain - need anti vac trap?

Great. Here's a pic of the trap: It's a McAlpine trap. The outer diameter of the black waste pipe is 42mm; that makes it 1.5 inch, correct? Am I right in thinking that if I buy a McAlpine SC10V, it will just replace the lower section without having to alter any of the pipework...

Smells from sink when appliances drain - need anti vac trap?

Hopefully this is just a quickie for those in the know :) We're getting some pretty minging smells from our utility room sink whenever the dishwasher or washing machine drains out. Both appliances have their wastes connected into the sink trap, via this kind of arrangement: Am I right...

    Shower drain smell

The water in the shower trap could be getting sucked out by the vacuum caused when the toilet is flushed. We've got a similar issue in our bathroom - when the bath empties, the shower trap gurgles and you get a smell of drains. I keep meaning to fit an air admittance valve between the bath...

Solvent weld coupling that goes INSIDE the pipe?!?

It might work; maybe an option if I feel brave enough!

Solvent weld coupling that goes INSIDE the pipe?!?

The other side is behind kitchen units, so not readily accessible without pulling the backs out of those. More hassle than it's worth really, just for me being picky about piping

Solvent weld coupling that goes INSIDE the pipe?!?

OK, here's a pic. I wanted to cut the top section of waste pipe away where the red line is. I could then have rerouted the pipe to make it easier to box in, or at least change it for chrome so it looks a bit smarter and box the lower portion in. One thing I did think of, was whether...

Solvent weld coupling that goes INSIDE the pipe?!?

Nah, I won't cut it if I have to bodge it - I'd rather live with an unsightly pipe run than a leaky one! It's only for a cloakroom washbasin, so unlikely to see much in the way of crud getting washed down it - but I take your point about the internal lip.
