    12Vdc SELV constant voltage powersupply

The problem I had when looking, was that there was no confirmation of SELV apart from some constant current supplies, but I did not want CC! So really the suppliers should be a little more proactive and clarify if the item is specified as a SELV unit or not. As you say, most probably are, but...

    12Vdc SELV constant voltage powersupply

I'm afraid not. There has to be an assurance that the transformer cannot fail short circuit and present mains to the secondary, so it's more complicated than low voltage/class 2. Output voltage must not be allowed to rise due to fault conditions. There are more technical things like extra...

    12Vdc SELV constant voltage powersupply

Brilliant thank you! Is there a 'standard' for SELV? I can find one for ELV, but the isolated/safety part (class 2 doesn't seem enough to me) seems a little more elusive!

    12Vdc SELV constant voltage powersupply

Seem to be having trouble sourcing a constant voltage power supply (as in the title) suitable for LED's (no or negligible minimum load) that is SELV and capable of approximately 50W Am I missing something? I do not want constant current, and it has to be SELV. I could live with AC but then it...

    Oxy/Gas burner cylinders?

Hi, so I picked up a little Bernzomatic gas/oxy torch the other day, so cheap I couldn't resist taking a chance. The only issue, is I am not sure if oxygen cylinders are available nowadays with the correct fitting (approx 1" left thread)? I suspect the thread for the gas is standard as used with...

Overwhelming smell of Acetic acid in home

Thanks for your help and ideas folks. . This one it seems, will remain a mystery. The only thing I can think of it that someone has put something dodgy down the drains and it came into the house... It was far too acrid to be a natural source for sure, but as there is no obvious source I cannot...

Overwhelming smell of Acetic acid in home

It's possible but we do not live near a chemical plant no. And nope no signs of any liquid anywhere... It was so concentrated too. Vinegar was one of my first thoughts though!

Overwhelming smell of Acetic acid in home

So folks we are all aware of that smell of siliconing the bathroom, well I was on my way to the kitchen when all of a sudden I was caught by an overwhelming smell of Acetic acid, it had that same pungent smell that got to my nose, throat, and lungs but this was like nothing I have ever...

    Non-return outside drain

Hi Nige, you can probably see the drain cover to one side. You can see the entire drain. The cover seems to be held on with two screws. I could try to remove later.

    Non-return outside drain

Hi folks, our outside (shared) drain became overwhelmed during the heavy rains recently, but more worryingly, I noticed the ball was not sitting against the rubber seal that is part of the non-return aspect to the drain. Cleaning the ball helped a little, but I think it would benefit from a new...

    Bar type thermostatic shower faulty

Hi folks hopefully you can offer some insight in to my shower! Water is barely warm, even on maximum turn. I have pulled the knob off to make sure it is not slipping. Rear of the shower bar gets pretty hot suggesting there is more hot flow than I can feel from the water coming out! There are...

    Mains water in reducer

ok I have pulled everything apart now, I think the o ring a bit tired maybe. Without removing bricks all I have is less than two inches of pipe! Shame you cant solder directly any more. Anyway cleaned pipe up, and put some ptfe over the thread and cleaned up the inside where the o-ring...

    Mains water in reducer

Out of interest if I get a new leadloc assembly I assume there will be the equivalent of an olive that held the original compression nut on? Just wondering if this would normally be cut off or the pipe has to be cut etc..?

    Mains water in reducer

It is leaking from the compression fitting in to the leadloc then, that being the lead pipe side. I assume I am to be very carefull with it being a lead pipe and with having so little of it exposed!

    Mains water in reducer

Would appear to be lead then, scraping the tiny bit of pipe has all the metallic qualities of a lead pipe!

    Mains water in reducer

ok found my calipers outer diameter is exactly 25mm so I guess it the modern stuff?

    Mains water in reducer

How can I tell? I can clean up, scratch surface? There is so little pipe showing! I guess when a meter was added outside they would have disposed of lead??

    Mains water in reducer

Hi folks I have a fast drip at the compression joint of the mains inlet reducer.. I only have one adjustable that will open up wide enough so cannot tighten, so just to make life easier tomorrow a.m. I am going to purchase a new fitting (and obviously a second adjustable!). Could anyone please...
