Hi Nige, you can probably see the drain cover to one side. You can see the entire drain. The cover seems to be held on with two screws. I could try to remove later.

Out of interest if I get a new leadloc assembly I assume there will be the equivalent of an olive that held the original compression nut on? Just wondering if this would normally be cut off or the pipe has to be cut etc..?

It is leaking from the compression fitting in to the leadloc then, that being the lead pipe side. I assume I am to be very carefull with it being a lead pipe and with having so little of it exposed!

Would appear to be lead then, scraping the tiny bit of pipe has all the metallic qualities of a lead pipe!

ok found my calipers outer diameter is exactly 25mm so I guess it the modern stuff?
