    Concrete floor

I have a rough concrete workshop floor, the kind that has the aggregate showing. It's very old and solid concrete, but I need to smooth it over without putting a covering on top, and keeping the thickness down to a minimum. It needs to be tough and hard wearing. Can anyone help me with the...

I worked with a chap like Mr Sheds some time ago. Over the years he went to see many experts to find a cure to his many problems, went on lots of experimental drug trials and even had hypnotherapy. In the end he was diagnosed with being a massive wa**er. No cure I'm afraid.

Blimey - that's quite a reaction! Have I found the customer relations department? I didn't know the cable size to use - that's why I asked. I do have a desire to learn - that's why I asked. Thankfully John has been very helpful and pointed me in the right direction.

I was going to feed the SWA from an MCB in the house consumer unit, and then use a two way CU in the shed for the lights and ring main.

Good idea John. Can you let me know what size cable you would use to link the box to the CU?

    Shed wiring

I think you're right with the 16mm being the best for the future John, and yes I will be digging the trench by hand. Although going down to half a metre might make me reconsider. I am looking at installing ground source heating in the near future, so I may well combine the two jobs and rent a...

Oh, now I'm a bit confused! It looks like I can make the run 40m - so does anyone have a definitive answer on the cable size? While we're here guys, do you know if there's a minimum depth the cable must be buried?

My 75 metre length was down to making several detours to keep the cable next to the perimeter. But I could cut that in half if I went the direct route. Would that help with the size of the cable?

    Shed wiring

I don't think that I'd ever be using more than 4kw at any one time really. Just 1kw for the lights, and the rest will be domestic tools, most of which are no more than 1kw. The heating is taken care of by a log burner, rather than an expensive juicy electric heater.

Haha yeah, I can get totally lost in there sometimes! I figured that I'd be looking at 10mm. Thanks for the advice.

    Shed wiring

Hello, I'm just about to wire up my garden shed and was after some advice on the cable size in relation to the distance from the house. So far I have installed 16 x 6' HF fluorescent tubes for the lights, and a ring main that will use a variety of domestic tools, probably nothing greater than...
