    Sputtering hot water tap

I'll see if I can match it tonight, but I'm not that convinced by pictures anyway. Sadly I have nothing on the cylinder, I reckon the apartment was 10 years old when I bought it. No manual, docs, installation papers - zilch. Apparently OSO will respond in 24hrs, still waiting :)...

    Sputtering hot water tap

Yeh, I've sent an email directly to OSO Hotwater, hopefully they can send someone around. Alternatively I might ask the building management if anyone else has the same problem and what they did to fix it. I have no instructions, no installation details and I don't think they even make my...

    Sputtering hot water tap

Actually I managed to find a sticker on the side of the cylinder, there's a number I can ring. Hmmm yeh, maybe I need to have it serviced. I thought if it's a minor problem I can fix it myself but it's been a while since anyone looked at the thing - it's wise to have it looked at. Does...

    Sputtering hot water tap

Hi, thanks for the response. My cylinder is a: OSO Hotwater, Direct Unvented Water Heater. Not quite a boiler (I don't think?) as my flat has storage heating. The sputtering only occurs with the hot water tap, cold is fine. Not entirely sure what a cold water cistern is but I presume...

    Sputtering hot water tap

Hi, I couldn't find anything relating to a sputtering hot water tap, thought I'd start a new topic for advice. From what I can understand it's probably air in the hot water tank. I live in a flat on the third floor (not sure how relevant that is!), about a week or two ago the bathroom sink...

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

UPDATE: Firstly I must thank a member of this forum who offered us indispensable advice. Mikefromlondon thanks for looking after us! I finally managed to get my mate's brother (a certified plumber) look at the problem too. Apparently it's the 'Flow Centre/Thermostat'. Strangely Dad said he...

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

I didn't imagine my Christmas would be so stressful. I found the phone number of the local plumber who came last time, and he's given me a rundown of the entire situation, a lot of details my old man didn't tell me. It's ridiculous to be honest because to cut a story short, we've been using...

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Aye, he paid. Bet it was the cheapest plumber he could find? Or he told the plumber to do it at the cheapest price?

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Installed a lovely new £30 hose from B&Q. The old one was actually taped at both ends! I ran the shower and we tested the hot water pipe behind it, the temperature fluctuated on the pipe. That means it's the Plate heat exchanger right? During the test my Dad said his Eon Central...

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Is the pipework badly done? I do wonder because my Dad's a bit of a tightwad, he probably got it done as cheaply as possible... Is it worth getting an electric one installed? I'm thinking long-term.

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Thank you! I'll get a new hose first. Then I'll do the testing with the tap. I don't think my Dad understood much when the engineers came, I don't live here anymore, so I'm trying to fix this before I leave again. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks again.

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Yeh, I'll make a trip to B&Q sometime to buy them a new hose! As for the problem - is it likely two engineers from Eon didn't diagnose our problem properly? The plumber said it's the boiler, they say it's the shower. :(

Problem with shower/taps going hot and cold

Hi, I'm literally ripping my hair out of frustration, not good on Christmas Eve :( The shower at my parents isn't working properly, the hot water tap fluctuates between hot to cold (utterly frustrating because the whole family is back for Christmas). I thought my old man was sorting it but...

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

I only repaired them once, this was the first time the bulb went out - forcing me to look inside and spot the burnt terminal block :( The previous owner was a student and didn't really bother, I bought the place with half the spotlights not working, luckily all except two were just the bulb.

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

First time I've heard of 'dichroic' bulbs. Mine are just bog standard B&Q Halogen bulbs as seen here. The aluminium reflector bulbs looks fine to me! Good website recommendation too because it doesn't look like they're standard in stores, unsurprisingly Amazon sells them but at £6 delivery...

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

Hi, sorry, just to recap. My 5a terminal block, and bulb connectors are ok with the 50w bulb? All I have to do is ensure adequate space for the bulb by moving the thermal insulation and the wiring deeper into the ceiling. And it's ok to push the terminal block in as it is? No...

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

I was slightly misleading, I meant I did the wiring to two of my lights - after some research! :p Thanks for the reference, I'll wrap my head around that some time :)

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

Maybe that's it, you can see the insulation in the second picture being quite tight around the area. The spotlights were already here when the apartment was constructed back in 2000, I'm unsure what you mean by fire compartment system. There's a smoke alarm 30cm next to the hallway light though...

    Need spotlight wiring advise please!

Thanks! I hadn't thought of that, so my problem could have been as simple as the bulb touching the tape wrapped around the terminal block? The two lighting positions are above my fridge in my small kitchen (I only have two spotlights in there) and right above my entrance, where I leave my...
