Where to buy grey self binding gravel or sand?

With respect, I simply asked for material sourcing advice, not a critique of what you assume my project is. BTW, I don't watch TV.

Where to buy grey self binding gravel or sand?

Hi, we have a groundwork project which is nearly complete. It's a paving area with grey millstone flags with uneven edges. To infill the joins we need to find a sand as would be used for block-paving of similar, or maybe even a fine gravel of 2-5mm. We've tried all our local suppliers and...

    split load consumer

So when split loads came out first, when time served electricians asked for info leaflet - in the time between asking for it and when it arrived, did they become incompetent? I don't see why a request for the latest techincal information renders one incompetent. It is a very competent thing...

Combi boiler in loft (timber framed building regs)

A little history. Boiler pilot light went out and wouldn't re-light. Plumber called by my partner, he told her it was condemnded and he wouldn't relight it. He'd fit a new one for us though. £2,000. Or £2700 if we wanted it in the loft. Can't do anything for 3 weeks though luv. So we...

Combi boiler in loft (timber framed building regs)

And I take it that you are? So what are they then? By your own assertion you should know them off the top of your head, surely? Or would you need to look them up? Like I have to.  You see, my original post mentioned I couldn't find them for free, That was my point...

Combi boiler in loft (timber framed building regs)

Loft is boarded, there is a fixed ladder, fixed light, fixed banister. Vaillant has built in frost thermostat. Also, pipes will be boxed in with insulation, and there will be partition walls made around the boiler to enclose it. The boiler is a sealed-room type - all part of the plan. See...

Combi boiler in loft (timber framed building regs)

I find that perspective frustrating. This is my third install with no problems. I just can;t find my copy of the regs.

Combi boiler in loft (timber framed building regs)

I am installing a combi boiler in our loft, which will be commissioned by a Corgi-reg plumber when complete. The manual references adherence to regulations when sited in a timber framed building. It makes sense that this also applies to my loft. I understand these are primarily to do with...

    bad smells from machine

I'm noting a lot of unwritten rules in this forum. Perhaps you can enlighten me?

    oil on driveway

Yes. I noted your objection, but it wasn't clear what should be done about it. I think I'm missing something here. Are we required to search before posting in "general"? :)

    Routing CAT5e Cables

I would recommend shielded cable if it's going to run anywhere near power cables. :)

    Scorch mark on counter

If they're not too deep you can polish them out. Over here we would use brasso metal polish. You can speed it up with an electric mop, but be careful not to go too far.

    oil on driveway

Try Cement powder. Failing that, there are many proprietary cleaners available from DIY stores.

    bad smells from machine

The smell is caused by bacteria growing in the machine. Use of biological detergents makes this more likely to happen (the clue in in the name  ). Also, more washes at lower temperatures such as 40deg makes this more likely to occur. As previously stated, maintenance washes + leaving...

Going rate for replacement fascias and guttering?

Not quite a DIY question, but - I will tackle most things that don't include heights. When it involves messing around at roof level - I prefer to call in the craftsmen. Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same thing, but the prices have gone nuts compared with just a few years ago...

    Condensing Boiler Grants

I've heard of these, but can't find anything on the web about it. A government grant apparently, for replacing old boilers with condensing boilers - Local plumber calls it the "A1 boiler scheme". Anyone know anything about it?

    Compression or capillary joints

I go for pre-soldered capilliary. I thought I was cheating, until I spoke to a lot of plumbers recently looking for boiler technical advice. Almost to a man they recommended plastic tube with push fittings. Suitable for mains, central heating etc. I was amazed. Haven't tried it yet, but...

    Combi Boilers

We're doing this right now. Combi is a good choice and I swear by Vaillant, having had one and known several other people with them. I am going to DIY the install, and get a Corgi plumber to commission the boiler - connect the gas and flue + test. Speaking to a few plumbers for tech...
