    hollow doors

I have a hollow wooden door on my bathroom. The brass handle came loose on this over a period of time and eventually came off. I screwed this back using raw plugs specifically for hollow doors but after a couple of weeks this has now come very loose again. I'm not sure what I can do now as I...

    painting glass

I've got a small window above our bedroom door which lets the light in. Unfortunately, I have trouble sleeping because of this. I don't want to remove the window and board it over but would prefer to paint it white. Does anyone know the best paint to use for glass. Obviously I want it white but...

    Paint pad kits

I'd definitely go for rollers and brushes. Have tried using pads but they're much harder work and don't give you a better finish. I can't see any advantages to them at all.

    Wickes new plaster paint

In the end I used a misting coat of Dulux Trade Supermatt followed by two coats of normal white matt. I'm pretty happy with the results.

    removing wall and pendant lights

the plasterer is coming on Friday so I won't be able to get the electrician to come before then. By the sound of it, it may be better to leave the wiring in place and simply replace the lighting using the same wiring. Alternatively, could the wiring be attached to some sort of back plate which...

    removing wall and pendant lights

Not sure if I feel competant enough to start messing around too much with the wiring in my house. Would a good compromise be to leave wires attached to terminal blocks where the lights were and let plasterer do his bit with wires still sticking out of wall and ceiling (wrapped in tape and...

    dripping valve

I'm in the process of redecorating my house and have just removed all of my radiators. On one of them there is a slight drip from one of the valves even though the valve was tightly closed so I have put the radiator back on. Should I replace the valve and if so how should I do this?

    removing wall and pendant lights

Do I just switch off power, remove wires of lights from terminal blocks, wrap block in insulating tape and push it back in wall and switch power back on?

    removing wall and pendant lights

I'm just about to replaster and redecorate my living room and have two wall lights and two ceiling pendant lights that I want to remove before the plasterer arrives. Ideally I'd like to get rid of the wall lights completely or at least replace them; likewise the ceiling lights I'd like in...
