I wish we could :? Going for a bungalow then hoping to do major renovations later is disruptive, costly, and aesthetically you would never get the seamless design you would from doing it all in one build. The internal layout would have to change too - but most importantly the reason for...

the roofspace is bigger than 50 m^3, but there's only 3 bedrooms upstairs, if we partition it we would have a very costly 2-bed house...

hi - thanks for your thoughts everybody. Ironically if we just modernised the existing bungalow and extended it, we would not even require planning permission, and my understanding is that a future loft conversion could take place easily. As it stands we can allow the planning application...

Same number of bedrooms Admittedly it's significantly larger, but still one dwelling on a plot which is over an acre in size... We had a very long pre-application discussion and the design was discussed a length, but now at the 11th hour it's suddenly an issue, very frustrating!

hi, quick question for you if don't mind we are seeking pp to knock down an old bungalow and replace with a new house. the planners are adamant they will not accept a house taller than 7.3m due to the local houses being of similar height we are planning to build a 1.5 floor design, ie...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

Hi everyone I thought I'd update you on this thread. I got in touch with the Electricity company and told them that we wished to disconnect the supply. The bungalow will be demolished (and my dad is staying with us for now). Therefore they needed to recover their equipment. There was no...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

No gas on the property, so UKPN recommended at least a 100A supply. I have tweaked the scheme a little - shown below, and I'll ask if this would change the quote for the work: The difference now is that a new connection to a different part of the main won't be needed, but rather just...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

thanks - what's the practical issues surrounding having a very long cable from meter to house though?? assuming the right cable is selected, would you still expect reliability problems at all (based solely on the length of cable)? and what about "wastage" of electrical energy? ie the long...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

Thanks westie One question though - in the event the bungalow has to be rebuilt, it may be re sited further west... This means that the fixed, outdoor meter, as you described, might be 40-50m from the new building. Won't there be a voltage drop? Or can this be remedied by a thicker...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

ok i think there are experts here... :P i prepared this diagram earlier which shows the situation: I guess, there's no need to dig two holes (eg one to permanently disconnect at point B and then a new connection at point E)?

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

thanks Iggifer Yes it's temporary because the kitchen is structurally unsafe and major works are needed, perhaps even a demolition of the entire bungalow (a very old building). I'm trying to work out a way to cut down on the cost as my dad's a pensioner and can't spend £2k or even £4k on this...

re-siting the meter = £2000!! UK Power Networks

any advice appreciated! :D my dad is having major works to his bungalow and the meter needs to be relocated to a temporary location outside (in a special cabinet). to disconnect the existing underground single phase supply and to set up a new 100A service he has been quoted £2000...
