Thanks, I have added a photo, the cardboards are spaced about 20cm's edge to edge, so was thinking of replacing with wooden studs. by removing the cardboard this will weaken the other side so would think I will need to screw that side to the studs to keep it stable. If this is can be done?

I have removed tiles from my bathroom and the plasterboard has come away revealing a wall with cardboard studs, the plasterboard is stuck to these. It is not the egg box style. I do not want to disturb other rooms in the house on the other side. Would it be practical to replace the cardboard...
