    Viewed house - cracked mortar

Hi I've found a house that I like and I am tempted to put in an offer. However there is a diagonal crack in the mortar above the neighbour's front door towards this house, and also a crack inside the entrance porch area. The vendor says they have never noticed the cracks, have never been...

    Moving Citadel XRI control panel

Good evening I have some a couple of pipes and cables running down the corner of my kitchen, which I would like to box in. This means moving the Citadel XRI control panel and a fuse (?) located next to it. Am I right in thinking the following would work and be safe? - Disconnect...

Advice: party walls, chimney, vents etc.

Hi all I have some general questions regarding some maintenance. The party walls in the loft space have a couple of bricks missing and the mortar is very crumbly. This was flagged up when in my survey when I bought my house a year ago - including a hazard for fire potentially spreading. I...

    Bathroom Furniture

Hi there, So you know of any suppliers of bathroom cabinets etc that are more likely to withstand condensation etc. I'm looking for something like this: http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S79894068/ The idea is to conceal pipes at the back. Are there cabinets available like...

    Bedroom - humidity

I have one fitted in the bathroom already and it helps, but I don't want the noise in the bedroom at night. (I'm a light sleeper.) I'll look at getting a dehumidifier, and see if that helps.

    Bedroom - humidity

Thanks for all of the replies. Keeping the upstairs bedroom doors open has definitely helped to keep the place warm. I haven't checked the roof insulation yet but will do this weekend. The walls are solid brick - this is a typical cheap Midlands two up two down terraced house... The...

    Bedroom - humidity

I can try putting the heating on for longer. After a couple of hours of heating the downstairs is warm, but upstairs is still quite cool. I suspected this was because there are large double radiators downstairs and cheap single radiators upstairs. Am I wrong in thinking this? My bedroom has...

What do you suggest? Go to the laundrette every week? Or buy new clothes?

    Bedroom - humidity

[/url] Thanks for the link - that is very useful. I suspect the problems to be: 1. Temperature of the bedroom. I will check the loft insulation (I know there is a decent amount, but I suspect less than 270 mm, and get a quote to upgrade the radiator. 2. Moisture from washing etc...

    Bedroom - humidity

Thanks for the reply. The condensation is on the inside of the window (inside the bedroom). Not beetween the glazing panes. All windows aninsulation are closed at night. The bathroom has an extractor fan with humidity stat, though I've not managed to get this set to the perfect humidity...
