right angled triangle roof in terrace house, converting to 'vaulted'?

It's all original (1911) timber work up there, but, it's a right-angle triangle so brickwork to the highest point / what would be the ridge beam. I imagine that something like a sufficiently affixed timber to the wall with some timbers perpendicular to the roofing timbers. I am not sure of the...

right angled triangle roof in terrace house, converting to 'vaulted'?

Hi there, Our house is a very small house ... and I'd like to remove the ceiling in the back bedroom to make the room feel larger. as I'm typing this, I don't know the details of the timber structure holding the ceiling in place. It's difficult to access from the main loft and has its hatch...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

ha! I rarely visit this forum, but when I do, I it's the utterly frank and honest advice/comments/opinions I really value, cheers! I'll grab an image when I can. Your suggestion is exactly what me and the good lady arrived at today, once the boiler has been brought back to life, we'll get it...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

hehe... British Gas have just been out for a quote, how nice of them. Supply & install a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i, the boiler would be moved about 6' along a wall and mounted on an adjacent wall - all pipework runs along this wall so would simply require re-routing right instead of straight...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

had another chat with Vaillant, £49 a month for 6 months, billing starts in Feb. I asked what happens if they open the boiler and 'open a can of worms', i.e. if it's just a washer that needs replacing or 90% of its internals, the lady i spoke with said it's covered upto the value of £1500...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

Yeah, fixed-price repair was £299 from Vaillant, on a >=10 y/o boiler. Flow Energy looks good, i'm calling them in about 2mins, thanks! oh fudge. No one available in Portsmouth to survey, it would seem we cannot get an Intergas boiler through flow energy.

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

hmm. That didn't go well. I think, reading between the lines, the main burner seal(s) have gone/perished, so they can't put it on contract. My own fault for not having the boiler serviced in the 3yrs we've owned the house. So i'm quite likely going to see about replacing the boiler itself. Any...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

British Gas one-off fee + maintenance contract set up, as an annual cost, it worked out cheaper than their (or other engineers) potential day-rate/costs and we're covered for the year without any surprises. £99 + £22pm, it makes getting it fixed affordable today and someone should be here...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

so one dude suggests 'flow sensor' + major service, the other suggests 'hot water heat exchanger'. Another dude wants £80 as a call out cost (which i can understand) but i'm a little cautious on how best to proceed. If anyone has any thoughts on how best to move forward, it'd be very much...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

;) we're not local to the area in which we live, so most family/friends are at least >200 miles away. The only neighbours we've spoken to don't have details of anyone. So with that in mind, if you can recommend anyone in Portsmouth, that'd be v.handy!

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

Agreed, not all trades are here to rip people off! Because I don't have the time to learn how to fix it nor am I really allowed to, I'm at the mercy of an industry where pricing transparency is seemingly taboo. I always offer tea/coffee/biscuits/cake and payment is always fair and on time...

Please describe your home automation setup...wife needs to be convinced about the benefits!

I appreciate this is an old thread, but it piqued my interest. I was involved in installing Creston and AMX kit a long time ago, I run a small AMX system here which is excellent! One remote control controls my tv, media server, amazon fire tv and turns my Steam machine on/off, it also handles...

Vaillant ECOmax S24, S28 & S30 - no consistent supply of hot water

Hi all, Hopefully, you may be able to help. We've got the above-named boiler (it's an 800 series, 824 iirc) and it's behaving a little strangely. The central heating system works well (considering the radiators/pipework have been installed poorly (this is slowly being corrected as and when...

    Insulating a suspended timber floor

Hi. I did this with wool insulation and netting, pulling up the floor boards as some of the joists were not securely installed and I needed some additional wiring in for AV stuff, along with moving a couple of radiators. So far, it's worked really well and save for the idiot installing the...

Glued along T&G bamboo floor, needs pulling up

Hi there. I recently bought a whole lot of Bamboo floor to install in my dining room, lounge and hallway. Apart from it scratching easily I've gone and installed it as a floating floor, glued along T&G, laid over floorboards with fibre board in between original boards and bamboo floor. As...

RCD spur from ring main to (ip?) sockets for washing machine

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/1849192758/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new ;) seems I have some more bed time reading sorted :) haha! thanks v.much. I very nearly bought a Fluke network systems tester, that was a really cool bit of kit, testing and certifying data cabling...

RCD spur from ring main to (ip?) sockets for washing machine

Yikes, don't think I can afford one of those Megger units, jeez that's a lot of cash. Though if it's your job, i'd have thought they're essential. My Fluke meter was checked / calibrated about 18 months ago so is ready for doing again, in saying that, it was pretty much spot on when it went...

RCD spur from ring main to (ip?) sockets for washing machine

Unfortunately, the kitchen is just ran from the 'ground floor sockets' ring main. I think when the time comes, the kitchen will have it's own RCD in the CU as both me and mrs enjoy cooking. Mind you, I also want to add dedicated supplies for my hifi and then another one for all my...

RCD spur from ring main to (ip?) sockets for washing machine

Thanks for the heads up and info. The CU was replaced in 2005 ... I may have my MCB and RCD confused... I have a good quality Fluke DMM i'm confident in using, so that's it partly taken care of. In terms of that Martindale EZ Check, would you/someone have any suggestions as to where is...

RCD spur from ring main to (ip?) sockets for washing machine

Awesome, thanks. (used) Book ordered from Amazon for £16 ;) The kitchen circuit (ring main) has an MCB (in the CU)... so ... if i do it like this: MCB'd kitchen ring main --> RCD --> double IP rated socket with integrated RCD:- plug in washing machine. I'm not in a desperate rush to...
