Flue + Canopy fitted in fireplace 6 months ago. Not working!

I'd have loved a stove but unfortunately it puts the building insurance for a thatch cottage up by 40%! It's a listed cottage so there's not much we can do about it unfortunately. We have heating (luckily)!

Flue + Canopy fitted in fireplace 6 months ago. Not working!

Hiya, Yes they're HETAS registered and an SMAS Worksafe Contractor. No we had the chimney lined and canopied very shortly after moving in and didn't have a fire. Though the previous owner says he used to have fires. I don't know if that was with the grate that we have in the picture...

Flue + Canopy fitted in fireplace 6 months ago. Not working!

Hi Ree, Thanks for replying! We had a chimney deep clean right before installing the new flue. As for the stack terminal, Google Image implies that that's the thing that sometimes looks like a plant pot on top of the chimney. If that's the case then yes, they fitted a new one. We got a...

Flue + Canopy fitted in fireplace 6 months ago. Not working!

We had a custom made chimney canopy and flue installed in our inglenook fireplace back in March. A few days after work was completed we tried the fire for the first time and were completely smoked out of the house. We tried again, and again, and again with the same result every time. The chimney...

Or are you saying a...

Replacing Aga with Range in cottage - extraction confusion!

It's a financial thing, they cost an extortionate amount to run and have gas running to them constantly to maintain the Aga's temperature. It's not a simple 'switch it on to cook dinner' as it takes over three hours to heat up. As both my partner and I are out at work all day, and we have a...

Replacing Aga with Range in cottage - extraction confusion!

Hi flyingsparks, No the chimney is not used for anything aside extracting from the aga. We have an inglenook but that's in the living room and in no way connected. Here's a floor plan, you can see the small kitchen chimney stack between the two doors at the front of the house. Once the Aga...

Replacing Aga with Range in cottage - extraction confusion!

Hi there, I have just bought a Grade 2 listed cottage and we're having the Aga removed and replaced with a gas range. As beautiful as it is, it really isn't practical financially. For now the new range will be located in the same place as we cannot afford to do a kitchen refit for the...
