Garage - damp coming under damp course: how to patch?

Hi John, Thanks for the reply, its tricky as don't want to worry my elderly neighbour, but here is an over the fence pic. There is guttering above (it's a flat roof) but don't think it is leaking unduly. Seems to be the neighbours path has been cambered to collect against my wall... not sure...

Garage - damp coming under damp course: how to patch?

Hi all, I've had a quick check through the archive and haven't come across any advice on this specific problem. The external wall in my integral garage built in the 60's backs onto the neighbours alleyway to their garden. Rain collects and is seeping through into my garage under the damp...

    Smoking Peugeot 207

Hi all, I was hoping somebody might be able to give me a bit of advice before the inevitable trip to a mechanic! I have a Peugeot 207 1.4 2009 (I know one the worst cars ever made) about 68,000 miles. On Friday night when I went to come home from work and started it up both the headlights had...

Shortening Ceiling Light no coloured wires

OK, thanks all. As I'm not at all confident with this I think I'll abandon until I next have an electrician round - not worth dying over! Is it not a bit ridiculous that the wires weren't marked? Think it's from John Lewis, almost as if your not meant to shorten it (no mention in brief...

Shortening Ceiling Light no coloured wires

Afternoon all, Another lighting problem.. I have looked for other threads on this but can't find anything. I'm trying to fit a ceiling light which needed the flex shortening. Ridiculously all three wires in the light are silver (not blue, brown green). Needing to trim off about 0.5m of flex I...

4 wire to 2 wire thermostat

Ah yes, that makes sense. Presumably I need to use a different block for each wire? (Else I would be joining them together?) Thanks Tom

4 wire to 2 wire thermostat

Hi all, Thanks to this site I have changed a 4 wire Honeywell thermostat for a 2 wire one. To make the earth and neutral wires 'safe' I trimmed them and wrapped them in insulating tape before bending them round and tucking into the hole. Everything works but can someone reassure me that this...

Cat flap in metal upvc door

I think taking the panel out is a bit beyond me - is it possible to replace panels then? Do you know the approx cost for that? Was using metal bits, tried a pilot with 3/4mm but they both snapped. Whatever it is it's a lot thicker than 3mm! Even if I could get through I'm not sure my jigsaw...

Cat flap in metal upvc door

Hi all, Really hoping someone will be able to help me out, I am trying to install a cat flap into a upvc door- something I though would have been quite straightforward! I had a suspicion it would have metal inside as I think it is from around the 1970s , sure enough when I drilled the...

    Switch screw problem- earthed?

Hi John, Many thanks for the speedy reply- kind of what I hoped someone would say! Agree with your other sensible comments- the threads fine I tested it I can't work out why it won't go in tried for about 45 mins before giving up! Will try again another day. Is 'lug' the correct...

    Switch screw problem- earthed?

Hi all, Long time admirer of the site but never had to create a post before! I've changed a couple of old switches in my hallway to new metal ones- this seems to have been successful (still alive) except for a problem with a two way single switch. I can't for the life of me get one of the...
