Break in through a dummy sash window

I agree with @JohnD, and you could (should?) get an alarm system that includes window sensors.

Break in through a dummy sash window

I’ll add another recommendation for internal sash jammers. While they come with screws, sash jammers are stronger when you also epoxy them (e.g. Araldite). The screw-and-epoxy combination makes them significantly more secure. Also, you can add a Torchguard to the window’s external uPVC to...

Yale 3 star barrel lock is pants!

@OM2 Have you decided yet? If not, Iseo’s snappily-named F6 Extra S3 euro cylinder could be ideal. Iseo’s renowned for top-notch lock cylinders, yet the F6 Extra S3 is reasonably priced: https://doorcontrolsdirect.co.uk/cylinders/1201-iseo-f6-extra-s3-euro-double-cylinder-ts007-3-star It’s...

Yale 3 star barrel lock is pants!

@OM2 I recommend you get the Avocet ATK. It adds security. Some Yale, Kaba and Cisa euro cylinders have keyholes that make it harder to use lock picks or bypass tools.

Yale 3 star barrel lock is pants!

It looks like a 30/45 size, but I might be mistaken. “Measure twice, buy once” is a good maxim. Can you measure each side from the cylinder’s dead centre (i.e. from the hole’s centre to the dirt mark line)? Sterling lock cylinders can be poor quality (although their padlocks are decent). UAP...

Yale 3 star barrel lock is pants!

While most keyholes are vertical, some well-established manufacturers (e.g. Cisa and Mul-T-Lock) have long used horizontal keyholes in many of their products. Yale and Avocet’s anti-snap cylinders are OK quality and secure, but there are significantly higher-quality alternatives (e.g. Kaba...

Cheapest screwdriver with storage you recommend?

It’s been my experience, too. I’ve found magnets work infinitely better for bit holding in screwdrivers.

Cheapest screwdriver with storage you recommend?

I also keep an eye out for sales. While the brands with reliable ratchets (e.g. Wera and Wiha) are expensive at full price, they can be found on sale sometimes. Although over £15, you could consider the Bahco 808050A ratchet screwdriver. It gets incredibly positive Amazon reviews, and Bahco has...

Dislodging an immovable plastic cap covering the screw in a window handle

I’ll try a needle. Though I tried using a knife to lever off the cap. I got the blade behind the cap and started levering it, but the cap didn’t budge. I stopped when I thought the knife blade might snap.

Dislodging an immovable plastic cap covering the screw in a window handle

I need to replace the handle on a uPVC window – something I’ve done numerous times before. This time, however, I cannot budge the plastic cap covering the screw in the old handle. I’ve tried everything: a knife blade, blaming Brexiteers, swearing, blaming Remainers, and even prayer. But that...

    FACOM tools

I have only limited experience of tools in this (expensive!) price range, but I wonder if it matters which factory makes the tool. Facom isn’t always upfront where particular tools are made (France, Vietnam or elsewhere?). And I found the quality varied from fantastic (superb spanners) to...

    FACOM tools

I know this thread is ancient! However, does anyone know if Facom tools still have a lifetime guarantee and how to make a warranty claim? My Google Fu failed me regarding Facom’s warranty.

Will heavy wooden blinds help single glazed heat loss?

How about a window film that’s thermally insulating? Google shows some (but not all) window films that claim to reduce heat loss.
