    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

I found a document that mentions its listed status as far back as 84 and I reckon the windows are mid 90s

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

I wouldn't have thought they needed to - surely a conservation officer's job is to check whether the area/building is following the directives of Historic England - you only have to look down the street I am thinking of buying and you can see that their job is not being done

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Thank you Luke. That seems a sensible way forward. Obviously I don't want to be taking someone else's issue on and it simply becoming mine as a result of someone else's negligence. As someone has already said on here, it is actually an offence to carry out work on a LB without LBC. Thanks for...

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Are you for real? When I spoke with the solicitors who are gonna do the conveyancing they asked if there had been any alterations such as extensions or new windows - I told them about the uPVC windows they said I should find out if there was LBC, there isn't, so why should I have to foot any...

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Yeah I called them today and they said that the windows should be timbered sash and not uPVC - that is when she said "do you want me to issue an enforcement order?"

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Not sure what you are getting at there like - I wanna buy the house, and don't wanna have to foot the bill for having to change the wondows - it is his house, he should pay to get it done not a potential buyer - the conveyancing solicitors will find that there is no LBC on the windows, why...

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

To the extent that you totally wouldn't bother Tony? I think you replied to my first thread on this forum - the house I am looking to buy has a basement converted into an air raid shelter....I must be a glutton for punishment!

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Thanks Woody, so in reality I should instruct the Conservation Officer to issue an enforcement order....seems harsh but I don't want to have to foot the bill. Thing is there are plenty on the street who have UPVC windows, however nothing seems to have been done about it. From the research I have...

    UPVC Windows in Listed Building

Hi, I have been searching through the threads about UPVC windows in lsited buildings and it has made for interesting reading, however they don't quite answer my question so here goes: I am looking at buying a Georgian Terraced house Grade 2 listed. The back of the house has some original wooden...

    Sagging Roof

Been looking at a property that is pretty cheap to be fair - the vendor has been honest (up to a point) about some structural problems. He said that the slate roof was taken off in the 1980s and replaced with a concrete tile but obviously the woodwork in the roof was not suitably strengthened...

    sagging roof

Thanks Terry, that was my worry...It could be a lot more expense than I had originally hoped....could be time to look elsewhere...

    Air Raid shelter in basement

Cheers Ree, I must admit, even though I worried about it, it was a very intreresting thing to see - 3 tiered bunk beds on each wall and secret doors running between 3 houses, directly into the pub on the end of the terrace! Could be handy if I lost my way home, two doors down from the pub :-)

    Air Raid shelter in basement

Thanks Tony - that is what I originally thought, however after speaking to a structural engineer over the phone, he said that it could have caused untold problems with the integrity of the structure and that I should let him have a look at it....for a cool £1000!

    Air Raid shelter in basement

I have been looking at buying an old 4 story Georgian house, however I have been scared off by discovering in the backroom of the basement there is an air raid shelter! Basically the stone flags that were once on the basement floor have been removed and then laid in the dining room above and the...
