Thanks for the reply. I opened it up and one of the wires looked suspect. Replaced and so far good :) Was probably intermittently touching ground

Thanks for the replies. I haven't drained anything so not sure about the sludge. Will check all radiators for air. I'll also try running it on full speed for a few days and see what happens.

Banging when central heating turns on and radiators not getting warm

Got a odd problem in that 2 or 3 weeks ago whenever my central heating turns on (either at 4am or 5pm) I get a lot of banging in the pipes. After a few minutes the banging disappears however there is no water flow and none of the radiators get warm. There is Drayton controller connected to the...

Home automation - To replace radiators or not?

Evohome looks like the best option. Will look into a auto bypass. Decorator should be shot - only just purchased this house and now finding out all the issues.

Home automation - To replace radiators or not?

Thanks. Yes - you are correct. The pipe is coming down and there is a U bend at the bottom. Had a look at all the other rads and this is the only one with the pipe coming down.

Home automation - To replace radiators or not?

I've been looking into home automation and have my eyes on the Evohome system. This controls your radiators TRV's. Unfortunately none of my radiators have TRV's - they are all fitted with these types of valves: http://www.screwfix.com/p/angled-radiator-valve-drain-off-15mm-x/70408 So first I...

Was looking at those touch dimmers - look really nice. What do you mean they won't work with standard switches? Are they a different size or are there other issues?

Dual dimmers on 2 way switches?

I have a a set of 2 way switches (each with 2 switches on) which switch the lights on/off in the lounge and dining room. If I want to replace the switches with dimmers, firstly can it be done with 2 way switches. If so I guess both sets of switches will need dual dimmers?
