Thanks, I'll have a read on how to lower the output, and yes I have a working immersion heater Cheers

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

Thanks mogget and matz, I think I'll re dose with x800 and leave it in for a while, maybe a few weeks and see if it gets better over time, if not then I will try reversing the pump and rig some power to it so it can be left running in reverse for a few hours

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

So if a cold flush is no good why can't I run the heat with the flow in reverse, surely as water is pumped through the heat exchanger it won't matter in which direction it flows

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

I've heard the fan and it's not that, there is also a little (tiny really) steam train type noise when the flow temp is nearing the 70c I have set it at, when fired from cold it's very quiet, noise only happens at higher temperatures, it was worse when set to 75c. Before treating and flushing...

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

The noise is now a fairly quiet thrumming vibrating type sound with just a little ticking in the pipework, I know I could jerry rig some power to the pump but is there a way of just switching the pump on at the boiler without having the boiler heating as well?

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

I ran the boiler for about a week with sentinel X800 in and then thoroughly flushed with clean water it has made a massive difference, must be 80% less noisy, so now I'm thinking I need to add more X800 and reverse the flow through the boiler, can I just turn the pump around and run as normal, I...

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

Well for a tenner it's got to be worth a go, if all else fails I guess it's a new heat exchanger, still a lot less than a new boiler would have cost

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

From looking on google I think Fernox F3 is the one I'll try unless anyone has a better idea or maybe Sentinel X800?

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

Thanks for the input guys, I think the next thing for me to do is add some chemicals to try and dissolve the sludge, can I ask for recommendations on which might work best without a power flushing machine Cheers

Blocked heat exchanger - remove boiler to clean?

I bought a used valiant eco tec 415 (paid £120 for a supposedly 6 month old one that had come from a demolition job) to replace an ancient inefficient conventional heat only boiler and had it fitted, my gas fitter didn't think it necessary to flush the system prior to fitting the boiler as all...
