4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

@ban-all-sheds – Cheers for your replies and thoughts. I agree. I think I needed to take this a bit more seriously... I want to get it right and perhaps taking the 'trial by error' approach to something quite dangerous was wrong. I'll do just as you said and learn more and can always ask an...

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

Thanks guys. That makes sense. I'll need to get a 5amp + terminal block. I'll get that tomorrow. The only outstanding thing is trying, without getting a meter, to work out which is the switch live.

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

I've tried to write what I mean about 10 times and I'm failing... don't worry. Is there any reason why I cannot use 3am terminal block?

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

Thanks but I have those connectors but I thought you could only do a block of one? There's only plastic between each 'bank' not metal?

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

Where can I buy large connector blocks? My connector blocks were 3 amp so do they need to be 5amp or greater as I would be adding two wires into one end?

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

I couldn't find any anywhere at B&Q and online? Am I missing something? I don't think I have the right meter... damn.

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

You're dead right. Thanks for this. The other rooms/loft do not work as you say. The power is off, don't worry ;) I switched it on to test which one was live; with a test meter. So the blue that had the brown sleeve, when switched on, should be live too? Also, in my picture when I show the...

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

Thanks @Taylortwocities, that makes sense. Is there any way to know which blue cable had the brown sleeve on it? I guess not :( it fell off when I was out the room.

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

UPDATE: I tested the cables when the power was on and the cables on the left are the main live core and the other 3 x three core cables are for the other rooms so it's looping all those off this. So now I just need to work out which cables to connect in a loop and which ones to use to connect...

4 x three core cables for one light and switch?

Me again. With more home electrical madness. I have a light fitting in a small bedroom with one light switch, nothing more nothing less, but after removing the ceiling rose I found this... Which, upon removing I've ended up with 4 x three core cables... so I've capped the earth wires off...

Metal ceiling light rose with no earth

@oldbutnotdead That sounds like a plan! Thanks for all your help. @ericmark Thanks for your help. I'm going to go with the solution that @oldbutnotdead has suggested but perhaps I could try to pick up a larger JB as well and make a decidion but I had trouble finding these at B&Q (a really big...

Metal ceiling light rose with no earth

@securespark Thanks for the support; I'm totally with you on this. With all these wires coming from my ceiling trying to use what the manufacturer gave me just doesn't seem like it could work. @sparkwright Thanks but you're right. I just can't fit the wires into that small connector they...

Metal ceiling light rose with no earth

Hi all thanks for your replies. @ban-all-sheds I completely understand but the setup they provided didn't fit with what I had. I had two three core cables coming from the ceiling that needed to be connected to that small terminal box and rubber sheath they provided. See the photo of the...

Metal ceiling light rose with no earth

There's a metal plate to screw into the ceiling which then I attach two screws to the plate. I think it has the double insulated symbol on the light because it gave me the junction box and rubber sleeve to protect everything in but I had to remove as the setup was more complicated but found...

Metal ceiling light rose with no earth

Hi folks, I've been fitting a new ceiling light today; a fancy one from Habitat, which has brought some issues. Firstly the ceiling had two three core cables, one from the mains and one from the light switch. The Habitat light has two core (although it's metal casing) but is double insulated...
