Thankyou everyone, this has been most helpful. We've decided to go down the road of maintaining the existing roof, we'll gather a variety of quotes.

    Opinion on re-roofing quote please!

Wow, this is great info - thanks again. Had another roofer come round and he said the Welsh slate would last a lifetime and we should just fix the leak, spot repair where necessary and look into the condition of the timber (I presume at the eaves but I wasn't in). He's going to pop a quote...

    Opinion on re-roofing quote please!

Thanks for the replies. I'll answer what I can. - We were looking at re-roofing as the roofing company told us the roof is 'at the end of its useful life' - We called them in originally as there was a leak coming through one of the window frames in a bedroom at the rear - 3 chimney stacks, only...

    Opinion on re-roofing quote please!

Apologies if these are absolutely no use whatsoever, but here are some ground level shots from front, back and side (I have none of the roof itself). Thanks for taking the time to look!

    Opinion on re-roofing quote please!

Advice requested for cut floor supporting beam

Thanks all, this is encouraging and gives me an idea of how to tackle the issue. Short term I was thinking just to pop down every so often and take a level on the supporting timber to make sure it's still exactly perpendicular. Long term I'll look to brace it as suggested. Much appreciated!

Advice requested for cut floor supporting beam

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't show too well in the photo but the red section on the wall is recessed so it does look like the large beam did sit on there and distribute its load to the wall. The newer vertical timber is sitting on top of a block that is resting on the dirt floor of the...

Advice requested for cut floor supporting beam

Hi, looking for some advice re a structural issue I noticed while down in my solum. One of the large underfloor beams that spans my dining room (~1900 semi detached stone block house) appears to have been cut and supported by a piece of timber that runs at right angle down to the solum floor...
