Hi CrossThread....your experience/intuition is bang on !
Serves me right for assuming the worse....measured and joist is certainly parallel to wall.
Thanks.
Hello...we have lived in three houses with a septic tanks and treatment system.
Get a septic tank survey ! They are not expensive, I recall a few hundred quid.
As a rule, if it stinks, there is something very wrong, even in summer.
Hello.
Splitting a double garage with a metal stud wall.
The plan was to just follow the joist.
So, I put some noggins on for lateral stability and ran out of screws.
Popped over to ScrewFix and in a moment of madness decided to treat myself to a laser level...be careful what you wish for...what...
Hello.
Not sure how to "start" this garage OSB project ?
OSB stud wall on joist between garage doors to partition the double garage.
OSB ceiling.
Main joist spacing 600 mm.
Note block wall has two joints close together.
1. Ceiling first then stud ?
Maybe painful since stud joist hidden...
Hello...just checked top access...can get two *maybe* at a push three screws in.
And yes maybe some wooden shims could also do the job.
So, two options, thanks for the advice !:D
Thanks...yes, appreciate that.
I don't think I can move it to the right, access at top is too difficult but I will double check.
Is it really necessary, given the weight of the roof means the wall plate is in compression ?
Hello...stud wall to split a double garage.
Unfortunately there is a strap (that is neither true or fully attached at the bottom) that is just in the way of the first wall stud...can I just remove it ?
Any other options ?
Thanks
Phil

Hello.
Bought house 18 months ago.
House was empty for two years before purchase.
Located in South of France…summer 35C…winter 5C worse case.
To the left of crack is the extension built twenty years ago.
Original house to right built 1970.
It *may* be water ingress but pretty sure it isn’t…

Hello.
Our lounge has no roof insulation. Its cold. There is no loft.
The most straightforward way is to add insulation between the beams, see pictures.
The beam thickness is 15cm. Between the beams is plasterboard.
I want to DIY this so am looking at advice on how to do this.
I want to use...
Hello....removing tiles from bathroom floor.
The house was built in 1970 and I am pretty sure they are the original tiles....underneath the tile is a black layer...see attached picture.
Is this adhesive/mastic with asbestos ?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks for reply...yes absolutely...but what is the best strategy for insulation...
Between plasterboard ceiling and tiles most of it is empty...no insulation...I have approx. 10 cm gap.
So I could do, vapour barrier on plasterboard and then maybe 8cm of something like this...
Hello.
We bought a house in France and clearly have condensation problems in the lounge/roof.
The lounge is big - 7m X 6m - and has what the Frogs call a "Cathedral Ceiling".
There is no "loft" space in the lounge, just plasterboard, minimal insulation in places and then "roman" tiles.
Note -...
