Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

I fitted the new valve head tonight and the heating seems to be working fine. Thank you all for your advice :0) I didn't bother fitting the whole valve as... well just swapping the head was a LOT easier! Do the valves ever go wrong? Another question though. How do you know what temperature to...

    Which mtb tyre?

The City Jets are ok actually, especially for the money. Oddly, they don't seem to roll that well for slick tyre but if you're looking for a really cheap path tyre, yeah. I don't know how well they protect against punctures. Probably not that well. Rapid Robs are kinda odd in that they are...

    Which mtb tyre?

Sorry, but that is a rubbish tyre and it's not very suited to the use you describe.

    Which mtb tyre?

    So.... what is it then?

    Which mtb tyre?

That's not really true. The carcass is very thin between the knobs and, especially on cheap tyres, is easy to puncture. Knobbly tyres are also crap for road riding, which is kinda why road bikes don't have them? ;0) Rolling resistance is higher, they wear faster and grip in both the wet and dry...

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

It has a dimple, happy days! I'll just swap the head just now and swap the rest of the valve the next time I flush the system.

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

The valve is a Honeywells V4073A 1039. A new one on eBay for £55 so I've ordered it. Thank you all for the great advice. I'll let you know what happens when I fit the new valve.

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

You can buy the head separately for about half the price of the whole valve.

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

I think I'll just replace that motorised valve anyway. It's over thirty years old so I reckon it's due! There is a Honeywells valve in Screwfix which looks identical. I assume it's best to replace the whole valve rather than just the head? Annoying thing is that I drained and flushed the system...

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

Do you think the valve would cause the symptoms I'm getting? When I try to put the heating on I get nothing, not even a click. Yes, it is a Honeywells unit.

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

Yes, the hot water is rather hot! Seems to be working though. The heating is still on and the house is just about warm enough.

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

I'll post a picture later, thanks. I've got it running for now. Simple! Had one of those 'Doh!' moments almost as soon as I posted the above. I've just set the hot water tank stat to a higher temperature than the boiler stat...

Keeping the heating on for Christmas!

Hi all, Perfect timing as ever, the heating is kabluey but I think with some advice I can bodge it into working until I can get an engineer out after Christmas. In a nutshell, what I want to do is stop the boiler from heating the water in the hot water tank while the tank is calling for hot...

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

I'm sending back for a refund. I thought Honeywell stuff was good quality? I thought it was industry standard kit?

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

Well that's about three weeks and no false alarms. Happy days. Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate the time you've taken to advise me, you've solved my problem. Any more alarm issues and I know where to come. Thank you again and have a nice weekend :0)

Ha ha, maybe so. Time will tell.

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

I hope so. It's been up for twenty-four hours without incident, not long but it's a start. The Honeywell unit is much more nicely built and has better features. It has dip-switches to mimic eol resistors, infinitely variable microwave range, variable look-down and the whole sensor can be...

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

Put the Optex up tonight so the test has begun. it's certainly a poorer built and more basic unit than the Honeywells one. As long as it works I don't care but if it does I reckon the Honeywells one is faulty rather than being less good.

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

Thank you. Ordered. For all it costs I can swap it in and see what happens. If the issue is resolved I know it was the sensor. If not at least I can rule the sensor out. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again :0)

    Honeywell Dual-tech PIR rapid-flash code

Good chance it means the same thing on this unit too. It has been removed and tested a few times now with no change. My bet is that the unit is faulty.
