    Yeah it looks like it may have had one at some point as there is soot in the old opening. - the old opening was bricked upfor a gas fire. it is the plaster on the outside of the breast that is well on.

    Thanks for the input. The whole chimney seems to be made from the air brick tyre ones. I plan to lintel below the current one and widen a little.

    Hi all, opened out fireplace today hoping to find nice brickwork and a builders opening + lintel. But i've got these odd clay/pot like air bricks all the way up. I'm assuming I'm ok to just put a lower lintel in where I want and cut there bricks down where needed?
