Fitting downstairs cloakroom suite, what order??

Morning, My downstairs toilet cistern cracked last night, no huge problem, as we wanted to change it soon anyway (it' s the ugliest bog I've ever seen), but I'm unsure of the order I should go about things. Obviously we want to pull out the old suite (toilet and small sink), remove the terrible...

    Shower power supply/switch

Thats clear enough for me! I'll tell her it's just not right, and it needs putting on seperate circuit. The fire risk should be enough to convince her :? Cheers for advice chaps :D

    Shower power supply/switch

No not a spark, all advice gladly taken. So, would it be illeagle for me to move this switch and not put the shower on a seperate circuit? I guess thats what it boils down to? The fact is, if i don't move it, it will stay just as it is, so if I do move it, put it through fused RCD switch, it...

    Shower power supply/switch

It's just run through a standard light switch at the moment, has been for some time by the look of it. As for seperate circuits, that's out of my league I'm afraid, strictly a replacemnet switches and sockets kinda guy!

    Shower power supply/switch

No, it's not a leg pull! :? It is an electric shower (heats it's own water), and, yes should be on it's own circuit, but I guess it was origonally a DIY job that wasn't too great (the sockets and switches are both crumbling away as well, but thats another story). So, short of getting a pro in...

    Shower power supply/switch

Hi, A friend has asked me to move a switch for her shower that is currently in a bedroom. The shower is currently wired in as a spur from a socket in the bedroom via the switch she wants moving. The switch isn't going to be moved into the bathroom, but I was unsure if it was acceptable to be...

Tree +power lines + phone lines

Thanks for the info, due to the size of the tree and the proximity of 2 houses as well as the lines, think it's going to be a call to the professionals this time. The branches are already touching the telephone lines, so best get on with it I suppose, wonder what this will cost me

Tree +power lines + phone lines

Afternoon, I've a tree in my garden thats starting to encroach on the phone lines in the road not serving my house (obviously put up long after the tree was around), it also pretty close to the power lines serving my house and nextdoor. Question is, Does anyone know if I can get BT or...

    Decorating new plaster

following advice from here I recently did a 30% watered down cheap white emulsion, then a 15% watered down cheap white emulsion, then 2 coats of final colour, and it looks fantastic, probably best finish I've ever had, so it pays to listen to these guys! :D

    Polycell basecoat

NOOOOO it's rubbish! A real pig to apply cleanly, left me with a very poor surface to paint onto. I did what Zampa suggests on another room, worked perfectly, much better finish, and cost, nowt as opposed to 25 quid. On a bright side however I moaned to polycell severel times and...

    Tough, strong filler???

Nestor, Cheers, I did consider that, but problem started last time when the action of drilling shook loose the filled area. However, I guess if the patch had been put in properly, it wouldn't have come out :? It rock hard anyway, going nowhere, so I am a happy camper, as it's my housewarming...

    Tough, strong filler???

Well, put it up last night, cut out the loose plaster and got two long screws into the lintel, which was only thin, so no strength parallel to the wall at all, but they were stuck in well, so very strong perpendicular to the wall, packed in around the screws with morter, which gave me the...

    Tough, strong filler???

Cheers guys, going to try a combination of the two! get a long screw into the lintel and patch the hole with morter. Curtain pole will outlast the house at this rate!

    Servicing, what should be expected?

Hi, I've been having my clio serviced at a local (non dealer) garage Kwick-fit type place called Tanvic. Should I expect them to carry out the manufactureres standard servicing, or is that expecting to much. eg, Renault state cam belt to be changed at 5 years, so should these guys have done it...

    Tough, strong filler???

Thanks for the input Nestor, the hole was PVA'd then plastered exactly as you suggested to start with, it simply didn't work I'm afraid  Going to try again though, see if I can do a better job than the plasterer (iffy, I know). One more question (until the next one), would using morter...

    Tough, strong filler???

Cheers for that John, I'm going to try filling it once more, as it can't do any harm, and it may work, as it's not the main weight bearing bracket, the outer brackets are screwed in tight. If it pulls out, then, yes I guess I'll have to raise the pole up the wall, going to look a bit daft, but...
